2019 College Football Rankings – Preseason Top 10, Teams 6-10: I have already revealed my preseason Top 5 for the 2019 College Football season, but as talented as those teams may be, the fact is that there are going to probably be a couple of teams from outside those Top 5 that end up making the College Football Playoff.
After all, this is college football, and the sport’s popularity is largely fueled by upsets. More importantly, many of the top teams happen to reside in the same conferences, and in some cases, the same division of the same conference. While we have seen a couple of SEC teams making into the playoff, that’s the exception, not the norm.
With that in mind, it’s time to take a closer look at the teams waiting to strike if the top teams in the country slip up or knock each other off. Let’s check the back half of my Top 10 preseason rankings. In case you missed it, check out our 2019 College Football Rankings – Top 5 Teams.
2019 College Football Rankings – Preseason Top 10, Teams 6-10
No. 6: LSU Tigers
The Tigers always seems to have the talent to contend for a national title, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and things are no different in 2019. What is expected to be different is the offense, which is poised to take on more of a spread approach. If the new style allows LSU’s playmakers to thrive, the rest of the SEC(check out NSAwins.com 2019 SEC Football Predictions) better watch out. A trip to Alabama looms large, but Texas A&M, Auburn and Florida have to come to Death Valley. There’s a lot of potential with this team.
No. 7: Oklahoma Sooners
After snagging quarterback Jalen Hurts as a transfer from Alabama, Oklahoma should continue to put up tons of points in head coach Lincoln Riley’s high-powered offense. On the flip side, the Sooners have multiple to starters to replace along the offensive line, and the defense is a major question mark. The offense has no margin for error if Oklahoma is going to makes its third straight playoff appearance. Check out NSAwins.com 2019 BIG 12 Football Predictions.
No. 8: Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Fighting Irish always seem to evolve under head coach Brian Kelly, and after turning the offense over to quarterback Ian Book last year, Notre Dame roared into the College Football Playoff. Book will back this season, and Notre Dame’s defense should remain a stingy unit. Road matchups against Michigan and Georgia will decide whether the Fighting Irish just have a good season or will be playoff contenders again.
No. 9: Texas A&M Aggies
Head coach Jimbo Fisher is quickly turning the Aggies into a major player in the SEC, and the influx of an excellent recruiting class will only speed up the process. Quarterback Kellen Mond flashed as a potential dual-threat weapon last year, and he will be a sleeper Heisman contender in 2019. Fisher is amassing all the pieces, but a ridiculous schedule that features Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Auburn and LSU is going to make a playoff appearance tough. That being said, the Aggies will likely dash the playoff hopes of a few of those teams by the end of the year.
No. 10: Washington Huskies
The Pac-12 hasn’t had a lot of luck getting into the College Football Playoff, but any team from the conference is going to run the table this season, I think it will be the Huskies. They will have a new quarterback and running back, but Washington should be one of the toughest teams in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Catching Oregon, Utah, USC and Washington State at home is also a huge plus.
