Saratoga Race Course is an iconic thoroughbred racetrack located in Saratoga Springs, New York. It is well known for hosting the G1 Travers Stakes and G1 Whitney Handicap, two of the very best and most competitive races in the sport each year. The track is also popular for it’s annual 40 day summer meet. The meet typically runs from mid-July thru Labor Day in September with 5 race days each week.
Saratoga Race Course opened on August 3rd, 1863 and is host to numerous GRADE I, II and III stakes races annually. The Travers Stakes and Whitney Handicap are the two most well known but other GRADE I races at Saratoga include the Alabama Stakes, Woodward Stakes, Albert G. Vanderbilt Stakes and Diana Stakes. The main oval dirt track is 1 1/8 mile(9 furlongs) in circumference, while the turf track inside, known as the MellonTurf Course, is 1 mile(8 furlongs) in circumference. Lastly, the inner turf track is 7 furlongs in circumference.
