NFL Win Totals Bet: Buffalo Bills

NFL Win Totals Bet: Buffalo Bills

With Tom Brady out of the division, the Buffalo Bills are primed to win their first division title since 1995. Buffalo managed a 10-6 record last season and made the playoffs for the second time in three seasons, led by third-year QB Josh Allen at the helm.

Heading into the fall, odds makers have put the Bills at an over/under win total of 9. So today we’ll look at their offseason in review, as well as their upcoming schedule, and see if the over or under is the right play.

Offseason Summary

The Bills went into the offseason looking for a true number one wide receiver for Allen. They think they got that in Stefon Diggs, whom they acquired from the Vikings for four draft picks, including this year’s first round selection. Diggs becomes the biggest threat on Buffalo’s improved offense. Among other big additions, the Bills signed edge rusher Mario Addison away from the Panthers on a three-year deal, as well as DT Vernon Butler, another former Panther. The team also took a one-year flyer on former All-Pro CB Josh Norman.

Buffalo’s biggest loss came along the defensive line, when EDGE Shaq Lawson left for the division-rival Dolphins on a three-year deal. They also saw DT Jordan Phillips leave for the Cardinals and CB Kevin Johnson depart for the Browns. Other veterans of the defense including OLB Lorenzo Alexander and DT Corey Liuget are also unlikely to return.

With no first round pick after the acquisition of Diggs, Buffalo addressed pass-rushers with their first pick. The team selected Iowa EDGE A.J. Epenesa in the second round, who will improve an already-strong defense. The Bills went with mostly offense for the rest of the draft, adding a new running back in Utah’s Zack Moss, a pair of wide receivers in UCF’s Gabriel Davis and Oregon State’s Isaiah Hodgins, and Georgia QB Jake Fromm.

2020 Schedule

Like the rest of the teams in the AFC East, the Bills will have matchups against the AFC West and NFC West. As a result of facing those teams, which include the conference champion Chiefs and 49ers, Buffalo has the fifth-toughest strength schedule in football, with opponents combining for a .525 win percentage. However, that percentage is the lowest in the division, with the other three teams in the AFC East facing the three toughest schedules.

One positive that the Bills face this season is that many of their toughest opponents will be traveling to Buffalo. This season, they are hosting the Chiefs, Seahawks, Rams, Chargers, and Steelers, as well as their division rivals. Road games at San Francisco and Denver will be tough, but the schedule plays into the Bills’ favor. The Steelers and Titans are the two at-large opponents Buffalo is facing this year, with the Tennessee game happening on the road in early October.

Looking at Buffalo’s projected starters, they do not have many glaring weaknesses. The defense is strong, especially the defensive line, and the offense not boasts a number of play-makers. The biggest questions will likely like with their offensive line and more importantly the development of Allen, who will need to further improve for the Bills to become the new class of the division.

Based on their offseason and draft, as well as New England taking step back, the Bills seem poised to be in the driver’s seat in the AFC East. Plus, a favorable schedule with most of their tough games at home also help their win total significantly. So I’m feeling confident in the Bills ending up OVER 9 wins this season.

2020 Buffalo Bills Odds to Win AFC East, AFC Title & Super Bowl from Bovada

Buffalo Bills Odds

2020 Buffalo Bills Odds to Win AFC East, AFC Title & Super Bowl from Bovada

The AFC East has been dominated since 2001 by the New England Patriots. However, their is one team many are picking to overtake them this season. Today we take a look at the NFL odds for the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills went 10-6 last season to make the AFC Playoffs for the 2nd time in 3 seasons after not making it for 17 years before that. The Bills are looking to win their first AFC East Title since 1995 this season. Bovada has given the Bills +135 odds behind the New England Patriots at +125 in the latest 2020 AFC East Division Odds.

Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott has done a very good job in 4 seasons as Bills coach. He owns a 25-23 overall record and has made the playoffs twice. However, he has been unable to get the Bills over the hump in the playoffs as they are 0-2 the last 3 seasons and haven’t won a playoff game in 25 years.

However, it’s only a matter of time before that changed with the way the Bills have been upgrading their roster. This past off season they got quarterback Josh Allen some much needed help with the trade for Stefon Diggs. The former Minnesota Vikings wideout has had a stellar career so far thru five seasons. Last season he caught 63 balls for 1,130 yards and 6 touchdowns.

With the Bills offense being improved, Buffalo is listed as the 3rd AFC team with +1000 odds in the latest 2020 AFC Championship Odds and the 11th NFL team with +2200 odds in the current 2020 Super Bowl Odds from Bovada.

Weekend Impressions…..

The NFL preseason kicked off last night with the Titans beating the Bills. Preseason games are okay while the starters are in, but they are a snooze-fest after they leave. Before long, you’ll hear voices calling for less preseason games and an 18 game regular season. While I would love to see less preseason games, I don’t think the 18 game format is such a good thing. The players would want more money and injuries are sure to increase. You would have to expand the rosters and that would water down the product. It is a game of attrition now and the healthiest teams have the best shot of winning it all. Do you want to see the luckiest teams or the best teams battle it out in the Superbowl?

I say enough already with these throwback uniforms, if they were so good, why did the teams get rid of them in the first place? When I watch a game, I want to be able to identify the teams immediately, I don’t want to have to work at it.

Tony Dungy, Michael Vick’s NFL-appointed mentor and babysitter announced in the booth last night that Vick will sign with a team as early as this week.

Tiger winning again is no big news as this is what he does. I don’t know what it is, but whoever is paired with him in the final group can never close the deal. Yesterday, it was Padraig Harrington’s turn in the barrel. He had a 3 shot lead to start the day and you felt if anyone could do it, this guy could. I mean he’s a 3 time major champ and is no wide-eyed rookie who would be intimidated. Tiger was on fire early and took the lead mid way through the round, but Harrington fought back and was ahead by one stroke heading in the fateful 16th hole. Tiger stuck an 182 yd. 8 iron (yes that’s right, a 182 yd 8 iron) to within 2 feet on his 3rd shot into the par 5 to guarantee a birdie. Harrington meanwhile, butchered his way to a triple bogey 8 on the hole. A 4 shot swing and good night Irene. Harrington’s game morphed into mine on that hole…

Red Sox-Yankees
As I suspected might happen, the Red Sox got swept by the Yankees over the weekend. These teams are like two ships passing in the night going in opposite directions. The Red Sox are a mess right now, I’m not saying they can’t right the ship and make the playoffs, but they had better turn it around starting with this upcoming homestand. They just aren’t hitting and they wasted good pitching efforts from Beckett and Lester. Francona needs to wake up and cut the cord with Jason “no-approach-at-the plate” Varitek and turn it over to newly acquired Victor Martinez. Varitek is a guaranteed out and with their offense struggling, they can’t afford to play anyone who can’t hit…

NFL Preseason Hall of Fame Game Odds and Preview

Vince YoungThe 2009 NFL Preseason officially kicks off tonight when the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans take the field in Canton, Ohio for the annual Hall of Fame Game. It’s been a big weekend for the Bills franchise, as owner Ralph Wilson and legendary former Bills defensive end Bruce Smith were inducted into the Hall on saturday. The 2009 version of the Bills takes the field tonight and it will be the first game in a Bills uniform for Terrell Owens. The controversial wide receiver looks to help a Bills passing offense that has ranked 25th or worse in each of the last six seasons. The signing of Owens has gone over big in the Buffalo area, as season ticket sales are up over 53,000 and his #81 jersey has been flying off the shelves. The Bills fans are hopeful that the addition of Owens can help get their team back to the playoffs for the 1st time since the 2000 season. As for the Titans, they will be looking to improve upon last season’s 13-3 finish and have Super Bowl aspirations. Titans head coach Jeff Fisher has led the Titans to the playoffs six times in the last ten seasons and feels this team could be his best yet. Fisher has stated Vince Young will play about a half after Kerry Collins, as Young tries to reclaim the starting job after getting benched in favor of Collins last season. Vegas oddsmakers have installed the Titans a -3 favorite with the total being set at 31.5.’s top handicapping experts Sonny LaFouchi(aka The LEGEND), Gerry “Big Cat” Andino, Lou Panelli, and William E. Stockton all have premium 20-10* NFL picks on the SIDE and TOTAL tonight. Check out NFL Picks for more information. 2009 NFL Team Over/Under Odds and Predictions

nfl-picks-2Vegas odds on 2009 NFL Team total wins are out and it looks like there are a few easy bets to be made. Here are’s expert handicapper Gerry “BIG CAT” Andino’s top 3 NFL over/under wagers for the 2009 NFL season and his analysis:

NEW ENGLAND over 12 WINS – Vegas has the Patriots over/under listed at 12, but Belichick, Brady, Moss, and company should have no trouble winning 13 or more if they stay healthy. I know another injury to Brady can change everything, but you can’t gamble scared. The bottom line is this team won 11 last season with Brady out the whole year minus a series and an unproven Matt Cassell thrown to the wolves. Look for the Pats to, at the very least, win 12 games and do no worse than a push.

BUFFALO over 7.5 WINS – Vegas has the Bills team wins over/under listed at just 7.5. I have spoken with a number of NFL sources and vegas sharps that feel Buffalo could be the surprise of the AFC this season. TO’s act grew old quickly in Dallas, but I feel it will be just what the doctor ordered for a Bills team that needs a player with clout and swagger to give the team confidence. The Bills are well coached and have sound offensive and defensive units to help them win a lot of close games this year. Look for Buffalo to win at least 9 games and possibly sneak in as an AFC wildcard team in 2009.

OAKLAND under 5.5 WINS – This team is flat out terrible. I would not bet on them to win more than 5 games if they were playing Madden, nevermind against NFL competition. I know, I know, Denver has no QB, the Chiefs are a work in progress, and San Diego has it’s question marks to some pundits. The AFC West isn’t excatly full of world beaters. However, Oakland just simply does not have the QB play or offense needed to win games in this league.

Below is a list of ALL 32 NFL teams and their vegas odds for team wins:

5 Games to Watch in Primetime for the 2009 NFL Season

With the NFL season just a month away, let’s take a look at 5 Sunday Night and Monday Night games that all NFL fans must devote time to watching. They are simply must-watch TV, so kick the wife out of the house, get a six-pack of cold ones, order a pizza, and get ready for some entertaining football! Let’s get to it….

WEEK 1 – BUFFALO @ NEW ENGLAND(Monday 9/14/09)
The return of Tom Brady and the beginning of the TO era in Buffalo make this the most intriguing game of Week 1. Add to it the fact that both these teams know each other well and you can expect a very interesting, hard fought game to watch on Monday Night Football. TO has already popped off that New England will not have an “easy” time of it and you just know he will say something even more brash leading up to the game. Great game to start off the MNF campaign.

WEEK 4 – SAN DIEGO @ PITTSURGH(Sunday 10/4/09)
A rematch of last season’s AFC Championship game featuring two of the AFC’s heavyweight contenders, this game promises to be a fun game to watch. The Steelers, trying to repeat and stake claim to being 1B to New England’s 1A as team of the decade, will look to go 3-0 against the Chargers the last two season’s with a win. The Chargers, who are in the 3rd year of the Norv Turner era, will try to put the AFC on notice that they are serious about getting over the hump in 2009. This should be a highly competitive contest worthy of staying up late for.

WEEK 4 – GREEN BAY @ MINNESOTA(Monday 10/5/09)
These two teams despise each other. The two fan bases hate each other. Does it get any better than that? Minnesota and it’s bafoon head coach, Brad Childress, made a run at Brett Favre in the offseason and allowed the old, washed-up prima donna to play them like a fiddle so he could get some more air time and press before his overrated career(a blog story for a later time, folks) was officially put to bed. Anyway, this game should be intense, as both teams should fight it out all season in what should be a tight NFC Central division.

WEEK 5 – NY JETS @ MIAMI(Monday 10/12/09)
Yet another battle between two teams that simply can’t stand each other. The J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets, and their new loud mouth head coach, Rex Ryan, have been running their mouths all offseason. If it wasn’t Jets safety Kerry Rhodes proclaiming the Jets as having the league’s best defense, than it was Ryan taking verbal shots at Miami’s Channing Crowder and saying he didn’t come to the Jets to “kiss” Bill Belichick’s rings. Hey Rex, here’s some advice, order the salad and win something as a head coach before you start barking up Belichick’s tree. Miami should be chomping at the bit to put Rex and Gang Green in it’s place in primetime.

WEEK 12 – NEW ENGLAND @ NEW ORLEANS(Monday 11/30/09)
The scoreboard operator will definitely earn his or her pay on this game. This one promises to be an absolute shootout and one of the most fun games to watch all season. Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Randy Moss, Reggie Bush, and company will be marching up and down the field all night long and if you bet on NFL games, than you had best be betting on the OVER for this one. Not only will this game be fun to watch, but it also just might decide the NFL’s MVP race with Brady and Brees figuring to be two of the top contenders for the award.
