2013 CNBC Prime’s ‘The Profit” 200 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Kyle Busch the Favorite

NASCAR-Nationwide-Series-Picks-Odds-Predictions2013 CNBC Prime’s ‘The Profit” 200 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Kyle Busch the Favorite: The Nationwide Series is set for a companion race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend, and while there are a few Cup regular set to pull double duty, the field is quite as loaded as it has been in recent years. In fact, the top two finishers from last year’s race will both be sitting out this weekend, and three of the four Cup regulars that cracked the top 10 in 2012 won’t be in the field Saturday.

Last summer, Brad Keselowski eventually outmuscled a field loaded with big names. Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne spent some time at the front of the field, but Keselowski led a race-high 131 laps on his way to the win. The key moment of the race came with 21 laps remaining when Harvick was forced to slow down in lap traffic, allowing Keselowski to overtake him for the top spot for good.

The Favorites

Not only does Kyle Busch lead all Nationwide drivers with six wins in 2013, but his three wins at New Hampshire are also the most in the series. Perhaps more importantly, all three of his wins have come in the last four races at the track. Busch is a threat to win whenever he gets behind the wheel of a Nationwide car, especially at a track like New Hampshire where he has dominated recently.

He picked up a win last weekend at Daytona, and Matt Kenseth will try to make it back-to-back victories this weekend when he heads to New Hampshire. In five starts at the track, he has finished third or better three times, winning in 2004. Meanwhile, his 4.8 average finish at New Hampshire is the best of any driver in the field this weekend.

Although he is still looking for a Nationwide win at New Hampshire, Kasey Kahne’s numbers are impressive nonetheless. He has a 6.8 average finish in five starts at the track, and he has finished third and sixth in his last two starts. Kahne also picked up his first Cup Series win at New Hampshire last summer so he has been at his best at this track recently regardless of what type of car he is driving.

With two top-four finishes in three starts, Joey Logano’s record at New Hampshire in the Nationwide Series can stand on its own. However, it certainly shouldn’t hurt his cause that he will be driving for the Penske Racing No. 22 team that won this weekend’s race last season with Brad Keselowski. For the record, Logano already has one win and four top-five finishes with the No. 22 team this year.

The Dark Horses

While he made an unforgettable debut at New Hampshire in 2010, Austin Dillon was a much-improved driver last year when he made his second start at the 1.0-mile oval. He finished third, making him the top Nationwide regular in the event. Meanwhile, Brad Keselowski and Kevin Harvick were the only two drivers that finished ahead of him last year, and neither will be in the field this weekend.

He made his debut at New Hampshire in the Nationwide Series last year, and Sam Hornish Jr. wasted little time flexing his muscle at the track. He finished fourth and had the second-best result of any series regular. Throw in the fact that Hornish has been a much better driver this season than last, and he should have an even better chance of pulling off the upset with a year of experience under his belt.

Sleeper Special

While his luck hasn’t been great this season, Trevor Bayne has had some strong cars and has a win under his belt. He could pull off another surprise this weekend at a New Hampshire track where he has a 9.0 average finish in two starts, finishing in the top five in his debut. In addition, Bayne will be driving for a team that finish in the top five in the last two races at the track with Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Big Name to Avoid

Although he has become a solid Cup Series regular in recent years, Paul Menard doesn’t usually dominate the Nationwide competition when he pulls double duty like some of the other big names. This has been especially true at New Hampshire where he has a 14.6 average finish and has only cracked the top five once. Menard will likely have a solid showing this weekend, but don’t expect him to end up in victory lane.
