2013 Camping World RV Sales 301 Free Picks: Betting on Underdogs for Big Payoffs

2013-Camping-World-RV-Sales-301-Odds-Predictions-and-Free-Picks2013 Camping World RV Sales 301 Free Picks: Betting on Underdogs for Big Payoffs: The second half of the 2013 Sprint Cup season kicks off this weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and while big names like Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon have all had plenty of success at the track, underdogs like Robby Gordon, Ward Burton and Joe Nemechek have all pulled off upsets at the 1.0-mile oval, as well. The flat corners make passing difficult at New Hampshire, and as a result, track position can often be the determining factor in deciding races. The proper pit strategy or fuel strategy can trump speed, and any driver with a decent car that can get out front late in the race has a chance at winning. With that in mind, here is a closer look at a few drivers getting longer odds that have a chance of delivering a win for bettors this weekend.

Despite an excellent record at New Hampshire and a ton of momentum in recent weeks, Kurt Busch is only a 25/1 longshot to win this weekend’s race at the 1.0-mile oval. Busch enters this weekend’s race in the middle of his best stretch of the year, and he has finished sixth or better in each of the three races leading up to Sunday’s Camping World RV Sales 301. More importantly, he is a three-time winner at New Hampshire, and he has finished sixth or better five times in his last 10 starts at the track. Not to mention the fact that eight of his 23 Cup wins have come at flat tracks. Granted, he is at a bit of a disadvantage because he drives for a single-car team, but Busch has been running well enough to win races for almost a month, and a trip to a track where he has enjoyed a ton of success throughout his career could be a chance for bettors and Busch to cash in.

He has had a mostly forgettable season, but a trip to New Hampshire could be just what the doctor ordered for Ryan Newman. He is a 33/1 longshot to win this weekend, and while his two top-five finishes in 18 starts this year suggest that he isn’t capable of getting to victory lane, his career numbers at New Hampshire say otherwise. He is a three-time winner at the track with his most recent win coming in the summer of 2011. Meanwhile, he has finished in the top 10 in six of his eight starts at the track since joining his current Stewart-Haas Racing team. No matter how much he is struggling, Newman always seems to be a factor when the series visits New Hampshire. Bettors should take full advantage of his mediocre performance thus far and jump on Newman at long odds at arguably his best track.

His status as a part-time driver the past couple of years has him constantly underrated by oddsmakers, and Brian Vickers is a 50/1 longshot to win this weekend. However, Vickers has been extremely competitive despite his inconsistent schedule. He has been particularly strong at New Hampshire, posting a 9.7 average finish in his last three starts at the track and logging a pair of top-10 finishes. If Vickers was a full-time driver, he would never see odds this long at any track. Bettors need to strongly consider taking advantage of the circumstances and grabbing a top-10 driver at longshot odds.

Bettors looking for a serious longshot this weekend may want to take a chance on Jeff Burton. Sure, the veteran is having another quiet and hasn’t had a top-10 in his last eight starts at New Hampshire, but at his 66/1 odds, he could still be worth a flier. After all, his four wins at the track are the most in NASCAR history, and Burton once led every single lap en route to a win at New Hampshire. Meanwhile, he is getting equal or longer odds than several drivers that have never won at New Hampshire and have barely won many races at all. If you are going to go out on a big limb anyway, you might as well do it with a guy that has been to victory lane at New Hampshire more times than any other driver.
