This just in…. this Tiger Woods guy is pretty good. His win this weekend at the Buick Open was his 4th this year and 69th for his career. Think about that for a minute, 69 wins on tour when most current pro’s aren’t even in double digits. Since 2006, Tiger has won 23 of the 46 events he’s played in. He is as close to a sure-thing as there is in sports.
This past weekend he didn’t bring his A game, but didn’t need it. The field wasn’t that good and he lapped the field while hitting to the wrong fairway multiple times. And if the internet stories are to be believed, he had his caddie Stevie “pulling his finger” for the CBS microphones to amuse himself.
He hasn’t won a major, however, since his return from knee surgery and he’d be the first to tell you he measures his year by majors. I wouldn’t bet against him in the PGA or the Fedex Cup, that’s for sure. Love him or hate him, the PGA tour is not the same without him. Some prefer Phil Mickelson or other players. But for me, I’ll paraphrase the guy in those Dos Equis commercials. “I don’t always watch golf, but when I do, I prefer Tiger Woods.”
