NFL Power Rankings – Week 2 2010 – Saints, Packers, Ravens Top the List

Finally some REAL football being played!  A great opening weekend with some good games and a few surprises too!  Now that we can actually watch the teams and not rely on hype, media darlings, talking-head’s and the like, we can start to rank based on what happens on the field.   On to week’s 2’s rankings:

HEAVYWEIGHTS/BIG DOGS

Rank/Team/W-L/Last Wk

1. Saints 1-0  (1) Not the offensive fireworks we expected, but a solid win against a team looking for revenge.

2. Packers 1-0  (5) The O-line didn’t protect Rodgers as well as I would’ve liked, but its still better than last year.

3. Ravens 1-0 (3) Flacco will need to play much better than he did last night if they want to stay up in the rankings.

4. Colts 0-1 (2) Peyton Manning will have to carry this team again as it looks like the defense will be the weak link.  And it looks like they’ll be without Bob “always-on-the-shelf” Sanders again.

5. Texans 1-0 (7) Now that they got the monkey off their backs, lets see what they do in week 2….if they lose, it will all be for naught.

6. Patriots 1-0 (8) Outplayed and outcoached Cincinnati last week passing their first test.  This week will be a different test on the road where they stunk last year.

7. Vikings 0-1 (6) No shame in losing at New Orleans but they are showing that it is hard to pick up where you left off one year to the next.

8. Cowboys 0-1 (4) Did anyone tell them it the regular season opener and not an exhibition game?  I’ll give them one mulligan and one only, but that was a gruesome performance all around….

9. Steelers 1-0 (12) Don’t sleep on these guys people, that’s all I’m saying…  they are still a quality roster….

10. Jets 0-1 (10) Not surprised since I never bought the superbowl contender hype as you need a quarterback to contend, something a Ryan never has understood.  Losing Jenkins for the year won’t help either…

11. Chargers 0-1 (9) What is it with their slow starts every year?  Hey, the schedule starts in September guys….

12. Giants 1-0 (14) Not a good time to play big brother, Eli.  Not after a opening day loss and their home opener in prime time.

MIDDLEWEIGHTS/AVERAGE DOGS

13. Titans 1-0 (16) Say what you want about Coach Porn Stache and VY’s IQ, but this team has some playmakers…

14. Bengals 0-1 (11) Not a good start for the Bengirls…..  most of their points and yards were in garbage time and the defense looked bad too.   Won’t get easier as the Ravens are coming to town this week.

15. Falcons 0-1 (13) Still staggering and stumbling on the road…if you can’t win on the road, you can’t win in the playoffs if you’re lucky enough to get in…

16. Eagles 0-1 (15) Looks like they got rid of McNabb to play Vick more figuring Kolb wouldn’t bitch…  well it looks like they’ll get their wish as Vick will have to play more….

17. Dolphins 1-0 (17) Did what they were supposed to do, nothing more and certainly not impressively….

18. Cardinals 1-0 (20) Maybe Seattle will be their main competition in the NFC West.  The way things are looking the winner of this division may have a losing record!

19. Redskins 1-0 (24) Shanny will right this ship, may not be this year but with that defense, they’ll be competitive.

20. Bears 1-0 (21) Lucked out on that overturned TD….but Bear fan can’t be too pumped at this point.

21. Seahawks 1-0 (28) Are they that good, or is SF that bad?  Maybe Carroll was just what they needed as I was never a big fan of Holmgren or Mora…

22. Niners 0-1 (18) Got caught up in believing the hype and forgot to play…  Same old Niners I’m afraid…..

23. Chiefs 1-0 (26) The Chefs will be a tough out at home, but we’ll find out how improved they are when they go on the road…

24. Jaguars 1-0 (24) Congrats to the Jags, they won the inagural Tebow Bowl…

LIGHTWEIGHTS/MUTTS

25. Panthers 0-1 (22)  This team is about exciting as a John Fox interview…

26. Lions 0-1 (29) Got screwed on that rule, but there are no moral victories in this league…

27. Broncos 0-1 (19) The Donkey’s are in for a long year….

28. Bucs 1-0 (31) Beating Jake “the interception machine” Delhomme is no great feat, trust me….

29. Raiders 0-1 (23) Way to have them ready to play, Cable-guy!  Keep this up and you will be a real cable guy soon…

30. Bills 0-1 (30) Anybody who pays for tickets to watch these guys play should be committed….

31. Browns 0-1 (25) Maybe there is something to this Cleveland Curse..  Holmgren as your GM, Mangini as your coach, Delhomme as your QB…wow…

32. Rams 0-1 (32) Getting better but you’re not coming out of the root cellar until you win a game…
