2020 Auto Club 400 Odds & Predictions: Favorites and Bad Bets for the Auto Club 400

2020 Auto Club 400 Odds2020 Auto Club 400 Odds & Predictions – Favorites and Bad Bets for the Auto Club 400: The West Coast swing continues this weekend as the NASCAR Cup Series pays a visit to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. The track will host Sunday’s Auto Club 400, the first of three races at two-mile ovals in 2020. Like its sister track, Michigan International Speedway, Auto Club has a wide surface that allows drivers to run everywhere from the apron to right up against the wall.

This early in the season, it is still tough to identify which drivers and teams have their setups dialed in out of the gate. However, it takes the right combination of horsepower and aerodynamics to win at a track like Auto Club, which means the top teams are always going to have an advantage.

Sure, you may want to cast your net a little wider rather than loading up on a just one or two drivers, but when you do start laying down bets for the Auto Club 400, I recommend putting a majority of your money on the bigger names from the top teams.

2020 Auto Club 400 Odds & Predictions: Favorites and Bad Bets for the Auto Club 400

Favorites to Bet

Kevin Harvick (4/1)

Harvick led the most laps of any driver last weekend at Las Vegas, and he should be fast again Sunday in Fontana. He finished fourth here last year, and he has a 3.0 average finish over the last five races at two-mile ovals, picking up a pair of wins. He also has three top-five finishes in his last five starts at Auto Club, including a pair of runner-up finishes. Harvick is probably the safest bet to be in the mix for the win this weekend.

Kyle Busch (5/1)

His lackluster performance at Las Vegas was a little concerning, but Busch has been the best in the business at the two-mile ovals recently. He has nine straight top-10s, including six straight finishes of sixth or better. Busch has been particularly dominant at Auto Club. He led 134 laps in a win here last year, and he has six finishes of third or better in the last eight races, winning three times. Busch has led 60-plus laps in five of those eight starts, leading at least 125 laps four times. Those numbers speak for themselves.

Joey Logano (6/1)

I said last weekend at Las Vegas that Logano was my top betting option among the favorites, and he came through with a win. You may want to go back to the well this weekend at Auto Club where he was the runner-up a year ago and has four straight top-five finishes. Logano has been stout at two-mile ovals in general, and nobody led more laps across the three races at Auto Club and Michigan last year than he did.

Martin Truex Jr. (8/1)

While some of the Toyota teams struggled at Las Vegas, Truex had race-winning speed. Expect more of the same this weekend at Auto Club. He has a 4.3 average finish in the last three races here, winning in 2018 and leading 70-plus laps twice. Truex has also led the most laps of any driver in the last 10 races at two-mile ovals, leading 40-plus laps five times. I love him at 8/1 odds this weekend.

Big Name to Avoid

Kyle Larson (8/1)

There was a stretch when Larson was unstoppable at the two-mile ovals, reeling off four straight wins and dominating the 2017 race at Auto Club. However, his numbers have slipped since that hot stretch, and he has finished outside the Top 10 in four of his last five starts at two-mile tracks, and he has led a total of just three laps in his last seven starts. At 8/1, I’ll take my chances with one of the other frontrunners who have enjoyed more recent success at Auto Club.
