2019 Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race Odds & Predictions: Value Bets & Sleepers at Bristol Motor Speedway

2019 Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race Odds2019 Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race & Predictions – Value Bets & Sleepers at Bristol Motor Speedway: Bristol Motor Speedway is the next stop on the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series schedule, and the half-mile short track, has produced plenty of memorable moments and a few upsets over the years.

It is those occasional upsets that I am most concerned about for Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race, and between the higher-than-normal attrition and the general unpredictability of short track racing, we will likely see some surprise contenders emerge over the course of 500 laps.

Don’t get me wrong. Bristol is not a wild-card race on the level of Daytona or Talladega, but compared to a “cookie-cutter” intermediate oval, there is definitely a better chance for a Cinderella story. Check out my favorite value bets and potential longshots for the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol.

2019 Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race & Predictions: Value Bets & Sleepers at Bristol Motor Speedway

Value Bets

Ryan Blaney (18/1)

While he has never won at Bristol, it seems like it is only a matter of time before that changes. Blaney has led at least 100 laps in all three of his starts here with Team Penske, leading a race-high 158 laps in the spring race this year. I love him at 18/1 Saturday night.

Kurt Busch (20/1)

Not only is Busch the defending winner of the night race at Bristol, but he was the runner-up in the spring race here earlier this year and has three top-five finishes in the last four races at the track. A six-time Bristol winner overall, the veteran offers one of the best track records here and plenty of room for profit.

Erik Jones (20/1)

He has had some bad luck at Bristol, but Jones always seems to have speed here. He’s also had his most success in the night race, leading a race-high 260 laps and finishing second in the 2017 race and cracking the top five again last August. Jones is one of the best values on the board.

Clint Bowyer (20/1)

Bowyer has been spiraling in recent weeks, and a rash of bad luck has him fighting for his playoff life. The good news for Bowyer, and for bettors for that matter, is that he is at his best at short tracks. He has finished eighth or better in four of his five starts at Bristol with Stewart-Haas Racing, leading 120 laps in the night race last year and leading 24 laps here in the spring. Bowyer has proven he can run up front and challenge for the win here, and he could have some sneaky value at 20/1.

Jimmie Johnson (40/1)

He has been mired in a slump for a while, and it has been even longer since the seven-time champ visited victory lane. However, Bristol could be the perfect spot to take a chance on him, especially since his odds have plummeted to 40/1. Believe it or not, Johnson has scored the most points of any driver over the last 10 races here, and his five top-five finishes and eight top-10s in that span are both tied for the most in the series. Johnson also owns the best average finish in that stretch, picking up a win.

Sleeper Special

Ryan Newman (100/1)

Newman is one of the best in the business at defending track position, and that aggressive style is a perfect fit for a short track like Bristol. The numbers back that up, and in his last 10 starts here, he owns an 11.6 average finish and has logged six top-10s. Newman has just one finish outside the top 15 in that same stretch, so he is always lurking close enough to the front to be able to try to steal a win with pit strategy if cautions fall right. If Newman can get himself out front late in the race, good luck trying to pass him for the win. He at least offers a puncher’s chance at pulling off the upset, which is about all you can ask for in a 100/1 longshot.
