2019 Bank of America Roval 400 Odds & Predictions: Favorites and Bad Bets at Charlotte Motor Speedway

2019 Bank of America Roval 400 Odds2019 Bank of America Roval 400 Odds & Predictions – Favorites and Bad Bets at Charlotte Motor Speedway: For just the second time ever, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will visit the Charlotte Motor Speedway road course this weekend. Nicknamed the Roval, the 2.28-mile track combines stretches of the traditional Charlotte oval with tight, winding sections through the infield.

Last year’s inaugural race proved to be a wild affair. Several of the top contenders all crashed on a chaotic restart midway through event, and Ryan Blaney eventually came away with the win after Martin Truex Jr. and Jimmie Johnson crashed while fighting for the lead on the final lap.

Throw in the fact the Sunday’s Bank of America Roval 400 is also the final race of the opening round of the playoffs, and I think you can expect to see some more fireworks in the second race at this course.

Despite some added volatility, your typical road course studs should still have an edge on the competition this weekend, and there are a few drivers in particular you should lean on if you like to play it safe as possible with your bets.

2019 Bank of America Roval 400 Odds & Predictions: Favorites and Bad Bets at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Favorites to Bet

Martin Truex Jr. (11/4)

Truex is the current king of the road courses, and in the last six road races alone, he has piled up three wins and two runner-up finishes. He has also led laps in eight straight road course starts, leading more than 20 laps four times in that span. Truex was actually leading coming out of the final turn at the Roval last year before being dumped by Jimmie Johnson, so if you do decide to back one of the favorites, I’d recommend investing heavily in Truex.

Kyle Busch (5/1)

He is a four-time road course winner for his career, and over the last 10 road races, Busch leads all drivers with an 8.0 average finish. During that same stretch, he is tied for the series lead with eight Top 10s, and he has led multiple laps in seven of those races. Busch is going to be running around the front of the pack this weekend, and he is as good as any driver around at sealing the deal.

Denny Hamlin (8/1)

Hamlin has been the model of consistency at the road courses, scoring the most points of any driver in the last 10 races. In that same stretch, he is tied for the series lead with six top-five finishes, leading laps in six of those starts. Hamlin has finished in the top five in both of the road course events so far in 2019, and I expect him to be right back in the mix for the win this weekend.

Chase Elliott (8/1)

Of all the young drivers at NASCAR’s top level, Elliott is making the strongest push to be the next road course ace. He clobbered the competition at Watkins Glen back in August, leading 80 laps in his second straight win at the track. More importantly, Elliott has finished sixth or better in four of the last five road course events, and he ranks second in laps led at the road courses since joining the Cup Series.

Big Name to Avoid

Joey Logano (16/1)

Logano has stacked up plenty of great finishes at the road courses, including a win, but he has been mired in a slump. He has finished outside the top 10 in six of his last seven road course starts, finishing 19th or worse five times and outside the top 20 in both races this year. Logano’s odds this weekend are based almost entirely on being a big name and not on his recent production at road courses. That’s not a recipe for a smart bet.
