2013 ToyotaCare 250 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Kyle Busch the Vegas Favorite

2013-ToyotaCare-250-Odds-Predictions-and-Free-Picks2013 Toyotacare 250 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – ToyotaCare 250 Favorites and Sleepers to Win on April 26, 2013 at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia: After a schedule bye week, the Nationwide Series returns to action Friday night at Richmond International Raceway. The short track is very popular among drivers and fans, and as a result, the field in the Nationwide race is usually packed full of Cup regulars that are pulling double duty. This year is somewhat of an exception, and while there are still some big names in the field, the Nationwide regulars shouldn’t be totally overwhelmed.

Last spring, Kurt Busch was able to secure the first-ever Nationwide Series win for Kyle Busch Motorsports, but it wasn’t easy. Pole-sitter Kevin Harvick dominated much of the night, leading a race-high 158 of the 250 laps. However, his decision to take four tires late in the race left him stuck in traffic that he was never able to work through. Busch and Denny Hamlin were the two biggest beneficiaries, and despite Hamlin reaching his bumper and even pulling alongside him multiple times, Busch was able to hold on for the victory.

The Favorites

Since the start of the 2003 season, Kevin Harvick has made 19 Nationwide starts at Richmond, compiling an impressive 5.5 average finish. He has also logged 16 top-10 finishes and 13 top-five finishes. More importantly, Harvick has a series-leading six wins during the stretch and is coming off a year when he led the most laps and finished third in the spring race and went to Victory Lane in the fall event.

Considering he just set a record by winning four of the first six Nationwide races to open the year, Kyle Busch would be a smart bet at any track. At Richmond, he is a no-brainer for anyone looking to play it safe. Busch is a four-time winner at the short track, and he has finished in the top 10 in his last nine RIR starts. In fact, Busch was in Victory Lane the last time he competed in a Nationwide race at the track in the fall of 2011.

The Dark Horses

Don’t let his 16.2 average finish at Richmond in the Nationwide Series fool you, Brad Keselowski is a threat to win this weekend. After a slow start to his career at the track, he has turned it on in his last seven starts. During the stretch, Keselowski has tallied five top-five finishes, including a victory.

In three career Nationwide starts at Richmond, Brian Vickers has an 8.7 average finish and has finished fourth and sixth in his two most recent starts at the track. In addition, he has been a stud at the short tracks on the Cup side in the last two years. Throw in the fact that Friday night will be his first start at Richmond since joining a Joe Gibbs Racing organization that has dominated the track. Add it all up, and Vickers has all the pieces in place to make some noise.

Since returning to the Nationwide Series full time, Elliott Sadler has been comfortable at Richmond. He has finished in the top 15 in each of his last five starts at the track, logging three finishes of sixth or better during the stretch. Making his first start at Richmond from behind the wheel of a Joe Gibbs Racing car won’t hurt Sadler’s chance either.

Sleeper Special

His rookie season had been filled with highs and lows, but Kyle Larson showed plenty of potential in his first short track of his Nationwide career earlier this year at Bristol. Larson finished second be a less than half a car length to Kyle Busch, and for a young driver that has run mainly at smaller, local tracks, it makes sense that he would have a good feel for Richmond, as well.

Big Name to Avoid

He has never been much of a short track racer in any series, and Regan Smith’s Nationwide numbers at Richmond reflect that. He has an awful 27.2 average finish in six starts at the track and has never finished in the top 10. In fact, Smith has finished outside the top 20 in five of his six Richmond starts.
