2013-Dollar-General-300-Odds-Free-Picks-and-Predictions2013 Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Favorites, Dark Horses, Sleepers and Drivers to Avoid: The Nationwide Series returns to Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend for a Friday night showdown under the lights. Since the race is a companion event with the Cup Series, several big names are going to be in the field. Among the Cup drivers pulling double duty are last year’s race winner Joey Logano, last weekend’s winner Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch, who won at Charlotte earlier this year. Needless to say, the  Nationwide regulars are going to have their work cut out for them if they want to get to victory lane Friday night.

The Favorites

He has been great at just about every track in the Nationwide Series, but Kyle Busch has been exceptional at Charlotte. He has a 6.3 average finish in 19 starts at the track, and he has finished eighth or better in his last 13 starts. More importantly, Busch is going for a season sweep at Charlotte after winning the May event, and he is a seven-time winner at the track overall.

Joey Logano is the defending winner of this weekend’s race, and in 10 career starts at Charlotte, he has finished in the top 15 nine times. Logano also has five top-five finishes at the track, and in addition to his victory last fall, he finished third in the May event earlier this season. Driving for the No. 22 Penske Racing team has won a series-high 11 races with four different drivers won’t hurt his chances either.

While Kevin Harvick has just five top-five finishes in 21 Nationwide starts at Charlotte, three have come in his last three starts at the track. During the stretch, he has compiled an impressive 3.7 average finish. Harvick also notched a career-best second-place finish at the track last fall. At his current pace, he might not be winless at Charlotte in the Nationwide Series after Friday night.

Although he hasn’t made many Nationwide starts at Charlotte lately, Matt Kenseth has been stout at the track when he does get behind the wheel. He finished eighth at Charlotte earlier this year, and in his previous start at the track, he went to victory lane. Kenseth is also coming off a win at Kansas in last weekend’s Nationwide race, and back-to-back wins in the series is a real possibility.

The Dark Horses

Despite being winless in 2013, Austin Dillon rolls into Charlotte as the Nationwide point leader. He has also been the best series regular at 1.5-mile tracks this season. He has a 5.8 average finish and eight top-10s in nine races at 1.5-mile tracks and has scored 30 more points than any other driver. His 113 laps led at 1.5-mile tracks are the second most of any series regular. Recent history says Dillon will be a major factor for the win Friday night.

In eight starts at Charlotte in the Nationwide Series, Brian Vickers has compiled a 6.8 average finish and has never finished outside the top 15. More importantly, he has finished in the top five in five of his eight starts at the track. Vickers is still looking for a win at Charlotte, but he is regularly in the mix and should be again Friday night.

Since returning to the Nationwide Series full time in 2011, Elliott Sadler has been stout at Charlotte. He has five top-15s in five starts at the track, including four top-10s. Sadler also has three top-five finishes during the stretch, including a third-place run last fall. Recent history says Sadler will at least be near the front when it counts Friday night.

Sleeper Special

Rookie Kyle Larson made his Charlotte debut earlier this year, and he didn’t disappoint. Larson finished a strong fourth, and he was the only series regular to finish in the top five. He hasn’t backed down from the Cup regulars that pull double duty in the Nationwide Series, and there is no reason to expect him to start Friday night. After such a strong debut, Larson may just have enough experience to pull an upset in his return to Charlotte.

Big Name to Avoid

While he is in the thick of the title fight, Sam Hornish Jr. may not be headed for a great run this weekend. In six Nationwide starts at Charlotte, he has compiled an unimpressive 19.8 average finish. Meanwhile, he has only managed a single top-10 finish, and that was only a ninth-place run. At best, Hornish is probably looking at a top-10 Friday night, and a win seems well out of reach.
