2013 Bank of America 500 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Jimmie Johnson the Vegas Favorite

2013-Bank-of-America-500-Odds-Free-Picks-and-Predictions2013 Bank of America 500 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Jimmie Johnson the Vegas Favorite: The Cup Series returns to Charlotte Motor Speedway, and while winning the 1.5-mile oval requires car that can handle the high speeds produced by the track’s slick surface, fuel mileage and tire strategy have also been known to play a factor. After all, nothing helps a car handle the loose conditions at Charlotte quite like the clean air that comes with running up front. Clint Bowyer exploited the clean air strategy to perfection at the track last fall. Brad Keselowski and Greg Biffle had the dominant cars, but as both drivers were forced to pit for a splash of gas late, Bowyer conserved his fuel and took the checkered flag just before his tank went dry.

The Favorites

Since the start of the 2006 season, no driver has more wins at Charlotte than Kasey Kahne. He has made four trips to victory lane during the stretch with his most recent coming in May of 2012. Kahne has been particularly stout at Charlotte recently, posting a 3.8 average finish in his last four starts. During the stretch, he has finished fourth or better three times, including a second-place run earlier this year.

At one point, Jimmie Johnson was next to unstoppable at Charlotte, reeling off four straight wins. While he has slowed down a bit recently, he has still been stout in the fall event, finishing third or better in three of his last four starts. For his career, Johnson is a six-time winner at Charlotte so he knows how to seal the deal at the track.

Last week’s winner Kevin Harvick could keep the momentum going this weekend at Charlotte. After all, he is going for a season sweep at the track after winning the Coca-Cola 600 in May. Overall, Harvick has five finishes of eighth or better in his last six starts at Charlotte, and he has two victories at the track during the stretch.

Matt Kenseth is riding a streak of nine straight top-15 finishes at Charlotte, and during the stretch, he won the fall event in 2011. Perhaps more importantly, he has scored more points than any other driver at 1.5-mile tracks this season and his three wins are the most of any driver.

The Dark Horses

Although he has never won a race at Charlotte, Joey Logano has been the most consistent driver in the series at the track. His 9.6 average finish is the best of any driver, and in nine starts, he has eight top-15 finishes. More importantly, Logano finished ninth at Charlotte last fall and fifth earlier this year in his first start at the track with Penske Racing.

While a win has eluded him at Charlotte, Kyle Busch is no stranger to finishing near the front at the track. He has finished eighth or better 10 times in his last 12 starts at Charlotte, and during the stretch, he has finished in the top five eight times and has six finishes of third or better. It seems like only a matter of time before he seals the deal.

Sleeper Special

He has been irrelevant for months, but Denny Hamlin just might be able to get his season on track in a big way at Charlotte this weekend. After all, he has reeled off six straight top-10s at the track, including three straight top-five finishes. In fact, Hamlin has two second-place finishes and a fourth-place run in his last three starts at Charlotte.

Big Name to Avoid

Despite winning four races at Charlotte during his career, Mark Martin probably won’t be adding to that win total this weekend. For one, he has finished outside the top 30 in four of his last five starts at the track. Meanwhile, Martin has yet to have a great run since replacing the injured Tony Stewart in the No. 14 car.
