2013 Alliance Truck Parts 250 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Vegas Favorites and Sleepers

2013-Alliance-Truck-Parts-250-Odds-and-Predictions2013 Alliance Truck Parts 250 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Vegas Favorites and Sleepers: On the heels of a non-companion event at Iowa, the Cup Series and Nationwide Series are both at Michigan International Speedway this weekend. Not surprisingly, this weekend’s field for the Alliance Truck Parts 250 will be bolstered by a few Cup drivers that are going to pull double duty. Of course, any driver that races in the Nationwide Series at Michigan has to have a sound strategy to go along with a fast car. The 125 laps go by very fast at the 2.0-mile oval, and teams often get only two or three pit stops to make adjustments.

Last June, Joey Logano, Paul Menard and Sam Hornish Jr. all took turns controlling the action. The three combined to lead 93 of the 125 laps, and Menard actually led a race-high 37 laps. However, he would end up fading late in the event just as Logano’s car came to life. Logano ended up leading the final 24 laps of the race, but he did have to survive a late-race charge from James Buescher that was preceded by a lengthy red flag delay with seven laps to go.

The Favorites

In five starts at Michigan in the Nationwide Series, Kyle Busch has compiled an impressive 4.8 average finish. Granted, his lone win came in his very first start at the track, but Busch has also finished third in each of his last three starts at MIS. Not to mention the fact that he has six wins and nine top-five finishes in 10 Nationwide starts in 2013 so Busch is a threat to win whenever he gets behind the wheel in the series at any track.

Defending race winner Joey Logano is back to defend his victory Michigan this weekend, and his career numbers at the track suggest he just might get the job done. In four Nationwide starts at MIS, Logano has never finished worse than seventh. In fact, he hasn’t finished worse than sixth in his last three starts. The last time Logano was behind the wheel in the Nationwide Series, he was defending he was winning at Dover for the second year in a row. He could stick with the repeat theme this weekend and make it back-to-back wins at Michigan.

The Dark Horses

While he isn’t the biggest name, Paul Menard is a Cup Series regular and will have the edge in experience on almost every driver in the field this weekend. More importantly, he has an excellent track record at Michigan in the Nationwide Series. In seven starts at MIS, he has six top-10 finishes, including five straight. Menard has also finished in the top five in two of his last three starts at the track, and he led the most laps in last year’s race.

He is still searching for his first win since returning to the Nationwide Series full time, but Brian Vickers has a chance to snap the drought this weekend. He has finished sixth or better in his last three starts at Michigan in the series, including back-to-back second-place runs. Vickers is also a former winner at the track in the Cup Series so he is no stranger to running up front at MIS in any type of car.

Regan Smith heads to Michigan as the point leader, and he might add to his lead and his win total this weekend. After all, he is driving for a JR Motorsports team owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr., and in two starts at Michigan in the Nationwide Series, Junior has two trips to victory lane. Needless to say, Smith should have a great setup to work with this weekend.

Sleeper Special

After a somewhat uneven start to the year, Trevor Bayne appears to be hitting his stride. He has finished sixth or better in his last three starts and is coming off a win last weekend at Iowa. Now, he heads to a Michigan track where he finished fifth in his most-recent start. Throw in the fact that Bayne’s Roush Fenway Racing has always been excellent at the track, and Bayne could be on his way to back-to-back wins.

Big Name to Avoid

He has quietly climbed to third in the standings, but Justin Allgaier has been heading in the wrong direction at Michigan recently. After a fourth-place finish at the track in 2010, he finished outside the top 10 in 2011 and failed to crack the top 10 once again last year. It wouldn’t be a huge shock to see Allgaier slip back into the top 10 at Michigan this weekend, but he just doesn’t seem ready to contend for a win at the track.
