2013 Advocare 500 Free Picks: Betting on Underdogs for Big Payoffs

2013-AdvoCare-500-Odds-Free-Picks-and-Predictions2013 Advocare 500 Free Picks: Betting on Underdogs for Big Payoffs : The Cup Series heads to Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend, and in recent years, plenty of different drivers have had a chance to visit victory lane. In fact, Kurt Busch is the only repeat winner at the 1.5-mile oval in the last nine races at the track. Given the trend, bettors have to like their chances of another new winner ending up in victory lane Sunday night. With that in mind, here is a closer look at a few underdogs capable of pulling off an upset at Atlanta and delivering a hefty payday for bettors.

If you look at his record at Atlanta, it is easy to understand why Joey Logano is a 25/1 longshot to win this weekend. In six starts at the track, he has a 26.0 average finish and has yet to finish in the top 15. That being said, Logano will be making his first start at AMS with Penske Racing this weekend, and he heads into the race with a ton of momentum. He has finished eighth or better in five straight races, and in his last two starts, he has a win at Michigan and a top-five at Bristol. During the stretch, Logano has been the best driver in the series in terms of points scored and average finish. Plain and simple, he is running better than he has at any point in his career, making him worth taking a chance on this weekend.

When the season began, Brian Vickers wasn’t even scheduled to race this weekend at Atlanta. However, the injury to Tony Stewart and the subsequent driver swapping that has occurred to replace him has Vickers behind the wheel of the Michael Waltrip Racing No. 55 at one of his best tracks. In his last seven starts at Atlanta, he has finished 11th or better six times. Meanwhile, he has finished seventh or better three times in his last four starts at the track. Throw in the fact that Vickers has two top-five finishes, including a win, in his last three starts in the No. 55, and he could be a serious steal for bettors at his current 28/1 odds.

Although it was announced a few weeks ago that Juan Pablo Montoya won’t be back with Earnhardt Gannasi Racing next year, it hasn’t slowed him down much. Heading to Atlanta, he has reeled off three straight finishes of 11th or better, including two top-five finishes. In addition, he has finished in the top 15 in four of his last five starts at Atlanta and has finished as high as third twice during the stretch. Montoya hasn’t been great at the oval tracks in his career, but he has had success at Atlanta. Add it the fact that he has been running well in recent weeks, and he could be worth gambling on, especially at his 50/1 odds to win.

He is back in the No. 47 JTG Daugherty Racing Toyota this weekend, and A.J. Allmendinger could be a longshot bettors cash in on. After all, he is getting 150/1 odds to win this weekend, but in seven starts at Atlanta, he has never finished outside the top 20. He has a 14.4 average finish at the track overall, and more importantly, he has finished in the top 10 in two of his last three starts at AMS. Meanwhile, Allmendinger also finished in the top 10 in his most recent start for the No. 47 team this season. A part-time driver with a smaller team isn’t exactly the perfect recipe for success, but at 150/1 odds, there are enough reasons to take a chance on Allmendinger this weekend.
