Sports the Way I See It…From My Couch(Volume 4) – NFL and College Football Edition

In this week’s edition of “Sports the Way I See It…From My Couch”, allow me to give my unbiased, uncensored, and strong thoughts and opinions on what I witnessed in College and NFL Football over the weekend with one hand holding an iced cold brewski(Heineken, of course!) and the other working the clicker(AKA The Remote stupid)! Anyway, let’s get to it…

Thoughts on NCAA Football

Pete Carroll is the Man… Period. While his coaching buddies across the nation(listen up Joe Pa) feast on non conference cupcakes that have NO BUSINESS being on the same field with Top 10 clubs, Pete Carroll simply continues to schedule ANYONE and, better yet, beat ANYONE… ANYWHERE, ANYTIME. USC once again took it’s act on the road and came through this past saturday at Ohio St. Give Carroll his due. He is hands down one of the nation’s TOP 5 head coaches, if not the BEST.

Who’s the BIGGER Fraud? Jim Tressel or Bob Stoops? I know, I know, both of these guys have won a national title. Guess what? I’m not impressed. When you coach at Ohio St and Oklahoma, respectively, for a decade you SHOULD win at least one national title. However, how many times do we need to see these two guys coming up “small” in the “BIG” games before we can flat out say they are OVERRATED? You listen to the so-called experts on ESPN and you might think these two guys can’t catch a break or just have bad luck. Bullsh*t. Tressel is 0-3 in his last three BCS bowl games(0-2 in his last two national title games), while Stoops is 0-5 in his last five BCS bowl games(0-2 in his last two national title games). That’s called NOT GETTING IT DONE. Period. I don’t know why anyone is surprised that Oklahoma lost as -23 chalk in it’s opener to BYU or Ohio St gagged away a late lead at home versus USC and it’s true freshman QB. I certainly wasn’t.

The ACC, BIG EAST, and BIG 10 are WEAK SISTER – Can we stop automatically awarding BCS Bowl game bids to conference champions and start awarding them to the BEST teams no matter what conference they play in? Because I’ll tell you right now, there is NO WAY the ACC, BIG EAST, and BIG 10 are fielding anything more than one(if that) Top 10 team this NCAA Football season. Sorry, but NOBODY from the ACC and BIG EAST are even in the discussion. You want Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, or Pittsburgh in a BCS bowl this January? You can have them. I have no desire to watch ANY of them play against the BIG BOYS from the BIG 12, SEC, or PAC 10. Seriously, it’s a farce that we must watch the top bowl games matchup inferior teams from these three conferences to play against much better competition from the other top conferences just because that’s the way the BCS is drawn up. Everyone talks about the BCS messing up the national title game matchup, but why does nobody mention the way it messes up the other BCS bowl matchups too? Outside of Ohio St and maybe Penn St, who else from these three leagues could even sniff a win against USC, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama, and LSU, among others from the Pac 10, BIG 12, or SEC? Hell, I’ll take TCU and Boise St over ANYONE from the BIG EAST and ACC.

Thoughts on Week 1 NFL Action

The Patriots, Chargers, and Colts. Overrated or 1st Week Jitters? Everyone wants to get too carried away with analyzing how teams looked in Week 1 of the NFL season. It happens every year. Let’s settle down, ok? Listen, the Patriots, Colts, and Chargers did not look like world beaters in their openers against teams that vegas oddsmakers, at least, thought they should have handled with ease. However, make no mistake, ALL 3 teams will be in the AFC Playoffs and will be three of the toughest “outs” in the playoffs thanks to three words: Brady, Manning, Rivers. It’s a quarterbacks league, folks. Those three guys will always give their teams an edge when the games start getting bigger. The Pats, Colts, and Chargers will all be fine people. Settle down.

Will the Jets EVER Learn? One team I despise more than any other in the NFL is the New York Jets. Every single year we have to hear their obnoxious fans and their NY media toadies hyping them up. This year, however, we have to even hear their own players and head coach popping off. Jets head coach Rex Ryan ran his fat mouth in the offseason about not being afraid of Belichick and that he didn’t come to NY to “kiss” Belichick’s rings. The latest was Jets LB Bart Scott popping off on NY sports radio monday about the Jets not being “scared” of New England and Jets DT Kris Jenkins saying the Jets will be treating their game this sunday at home vs New England like the “Super Bowl”. Are you kidding me? It’s week bleeping 2 of the season and teams like New England know that the season is a LONG one. Hell, the Jets should even know that after the way they collapsed last season after being in the AFC East lead after 12 weeks. Here’s an early play from “The Pigskin Guy” for this sunday. The Patriots will roll and win this game going away. The Pats and Belichick are still foaming at the mouth for losing a key game last year at home versus the Jets in overtime and all the chattering by the Jets after that game and leading upto this game will have the Pats looking to embarass the J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets in a B-I-G, BIG BIG BIG TIME way this sunday. Pats by at least 2 touchdowns. Book it.
