Sports Views, Opinions, and Ranting from a Sports Fanatic(Volume 1)

Welcome to the 1st edition of “Sports Views, Opinions, and Ranting from a Sports Fanatic”. In this edition, NSAwins.com “Final Score Report” blogger Matthew C. gives his views on interesting NFL and MLB topics…

The Dallas Cowboys Scoreboard Fiaso
I get it, Jerry Jones proved once again he is a complete moron. I get it, nobody wants delays in the game. I get it, “do overs” should be limited to a kids playground. None of those mean much to me. Why hasn’t anyone addressed the most important issue. PLAYER SAFETY. Punts and kickoffs are already the most dangerous scenarios for players. Now, we have players fully engaged with each other, with the possibility of injury, and the play might not even count. What? Plus the confusion of a punt hitting the scoreboard means some players will ease up while others won’t be aware of the situation and are going full speed. This is a career ending injury waiting to happen. Why isn’t the NFL or Goodell changing the requirements for that scoreboard? They talk about player safety all the time and they can’t see it when it’s right under their nose. The players union needs to catch on as well. This isn’t brain surgery.

No Pity for Plaxico Burress or Michael Vick
I need someone reading this to explain to me why Plaxico Burress and Micheal Vick got an unfair sentence just because Dante Stallworth got off easy? Is that how we judge stupid and criminal behavoir? By what another guy got in a totally different case? If Burress killed your kid by accident in that bar, you might feel different. And Micheal Vick has to earn his way back into the human race. To their credit, none of them are complaining. None of them have made excuses. Stallworth got lucky. That’s life. Don’t commit crimes. Pretty simple, huh? I remember when my father punished me and said my brothers got off easier. Believe or not, he didn’t care.

Memo to MLB Pitchers: Don’t aim, throw!
What is happening to MLB pitchers? The quality of pitching is deplorable. The few good pitchers always get ahead in the count, but most pitchers today are pitching from 2-0 or 2-1 counts. Who is teaching them? Your 1st pitch has to be a strike. A lot of batters take the first pitch. Let the others hit it. That’s why you have fielders. They are even too cautious with the dangerous hitters. They are scared of them. I can see not grooving meatballs to these guys, but when they pitch scared they get behind in the count. That’s when they get jacked. I don’t see any great hitter hurting a pitcher on the first pitch. It’s because the pitcher puts himself in a bad spot. You’re a pro for heaven’s sake… throw your best pitches and get them out. Don’t walk them because you’re scared.

What Happened to Quality MLB Relievers?
What’s going on with relievers? I’ve never seen more blown saves in my life. Yes, there are the studs, but most teams are very weak in that area. You are getting paid 5 million a year. GET 3 OUTS. Is that asking to much?

MLB Pitchers are Over Coached
I think pitchers are overcoached. They change mechanics, mental outlook and strategy. Let them use the talents that got them to the big leagues. If something needs fixing, that’s fine. But why do they try to do a complete makeover on guys? Leave that to Oprah. They chart every pitch and then send them to the mound like a robot. My favorite pitcher, Catfish Hunter, didn’t have great mechanics. But he had a talent that was more valueable. He was a pitcher. He knew how to get guys out, period. He wasn’t scared. He didn’t care about scouting reports. He cared about getting guys out. Throwers are a dime a dozen. Pitchers are very scarce.
