2011 US Open Odds, Predictions, Free Tips and Picks – Favorites and Bets to Win US Open

2011 US Open Odds, Predictions, Free Tips and Picks – Favorites, Bets and Lines to Win the US Open: Vegas odds to win the 2011 US Open at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland on this week’s PGA Tour have been posted at the vegas and online sportsbooks and the oddsmakers in Las Vegas and at Europe’s BetFred Bookmaker have made England’s Lee Westwood the 11/1 favorite to win.

It is widely considered the toughest tournament in golf, and this Thursday, the world’s top players will try to conquer the U.S. Open. This year’s tournament will be held at the Congressional Country Club in Maryland, marking the third time the course has hosted the event and the first time since 1997. With snug fairways and unforgiving greens, the 2011 U.S. Open is going to be a tough test on every golfer in the field.

The Majors have been tough to predict lately, with first-time winners claiming the last four titles. Not only that, but the last 10 Majors have been won by 10 different golfers. Throwing another wrench into the already cloudy equation is the fact that only three of the current top-10 golfers in the world have won a Major. In short, there is good chance that a new face will emerge victorious after four days at a very difficult course.

2011 US Open Betting – The Favorites

One of the golfers currently ranked in the top 10 that has yet to win a Major is world No. 1 Luke Donald. He is leading all golfers in scoring average in 2011 and has finished in the top 10 in eight of his nine starts. Donald has underwhelmed in several of his Major appearances, and he isn’t the strongest off the tee in terms of distance. That being said, he is playing as well as any golfer in the world right now, and he has the all-around game to handle a narrow course at Congressional.

With Tiger Woods sidelined with injuries, Phil Mickelson is the juggernaut in the field, and he is going to be plenty motivated. The U.S. Open has eluded him throughout his career, but he has finished second five times. Mickelson hasn’t exactly been at the top of his game this year, but as long as he can limit his wild drivers of the tee, he should be in the mix. Mickelson wants this Major in the worst way.

After a slow start, Lee Westwood is finding his game just in time for the U.S. Open. He has finished 11th in his last two starts on the PGA Tour in 2011, and he does rank third in scoring average. Westwood has ranked consistently in the top five in the World Gold Rankings for the last three seasons, but he never won a Major. He probably needs to do so in the next couple of years if he going to get it done.

2011 US Open Betting – Potential Sleepers

Although he hasn’t won yet this season, Matt Kuchar has been one of the more consistent golfers. He has finished in the top 10 in eight of his 14 starts and has finished outside the top 25 only three times. More importantly, Kuchar is second on the tour in scoring average. He has been criticized for playing too conservatively at times, but at a tough course like Congressional, playing it safe could end up being the smart move.

Fourth on the tour in scoring average, Nick Watney is in the middle of a very solid season. He one win, seven top-10 finishes and nine top-25s in 11 starts in 2011. Watney’s all-around talent is what makes him a contender, and he currently ranks in the top 20 in driving distance, greens hit, and putting. If a few breaks fall his way, he could steal away this Major from some bigger names.

He may have some holes in his game, but the one thing Dustin Johnson isn’t lacking is length of the tee. He ranks fourth on the tour in driving distance, and his short game has been steadily improving as well. Johnson has had some notable collapses in big tournaments, and he will have to limit his lapses in accuracy if he is going to win this weekend. That being said, he is a golfer with all the tools. He just needs it all to come together for an entire 72 holes.

2011 US Open Betting – Golfers to Avoid

Despite winning twice on the PGA Tour in 2011, Bubba Watson could have trouble in the U.S. Open. While he can bomb it off the tee, ranking 2nd on the tour in driving distance, he lacks consistency in his short game. It is a big part of the reason he has finished outside the top 25 in eight of his 13 starts this season. The tight fairways and firm greens at this year’s course will expose the weakness in Watson’s game, making a win this weekend tough to come by.

After flirting with a win at the Masters only to fall apart on Sunday, Rory McIlroy will once again be under the microscope as he returns to the Major for the first time since the epic collapse. The story is pretty much the same heading into the U.S. Open for McIlory. He has all the tools he needs to win a Major, but his tendency to have things spiral after a bad shot or two is tough to overlook. Until he proves he can get over the hump, trusting McIlroy is a risky option.
