2011 PGA Championship Odds, Predictions, Free Picks and Tips – Favorites and Sleepers at 93rd PGA Championship

2011 PGA Championship Odds, Predictions, Free Tips and Picks – Favorites, Sleepers and Lines to Win the PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club-Highlands Course: Vegas odds to win the 2011 PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club-Highlands Course in Johns Creek, Georgia on this week’s PGA Tour have been posted at the vegas and online sportsbooks and the oddsmakers in Las Vegas and at online bookmaker SBG Global Sportsbook have made Rory McIlroy the 10/1 favorite to win the US PGA Championship. The 2011 PGA Championship will be the last of the four major professional golf championships on this season’s tour and will be played on a Par 70 course stretching over 7,486 yards with a stroke play format.

For golfers hoping to capture a major in 2011, their last chance begins Thursday when the PGA Championship tees off for the 93rd time. This year’s tournament will played at the Atlanta Athletic Club in JohnsCreek, Georgia. The course isn’t overly unique, but isn’t exactly easy either. There are bunkers lining a majority of the fairways, and the water hazards have particularly steep slopes surrounding them that seem to suck in errant tee shots. It is a long course as well, and the greens can be unforgiving depending on the weather. However, the forecast calls for warmer conditions, which should soften up the greens and allow for some lower scores.

The majors have been wide open so far in 2011, and as surprising as the firs three have been, there is no reason to expect that change in the finale. In fact, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see another first-time major winner, especially considering some of the hottest players on the tour this year have never accomplished the feat. First-time winner or not, this week’s PGA Championship figures to be anything but boring.

The Favorites – 2011 PGA Championship Odds and Free Picks

He ran away with the U.S. Open and probably should have won the Masters, and Rory McIlroy will try for yet another impressive performance in a major. All indications are that the weather should make this year’s PGA Championship a golfer-friendly affair, and McIlroy has been at his best when then the scores have been on the lower side. The course should allow for an aggressive approach to be effective, and turning someone as talented as McIlroy loose is bad news for the competition and good news for his chances at a second major.

Despite finishing third or better in six majors since the start of the 2008 season, Lee Westwood has yet to add a major championship to his resume. He will try to change that yet again at this year’s PGA Championship where he finished third as recently as 2009. Westwood is solid in every facet of the game, and he has the consistent results to prove it. It only takes one or two breaks to go from major contender to major winner, and Westwood is one golfer that always seems to be in the thick of things.

He won the PGA Championship last season, and Martin Kaymer hasn’t slowed down since. He is currently No. 3 in the World Golf Rankings, and top-10 finishes have become the norm for Kaymer in the last few years. He currently flies under the radar despite the major title last season, but a repeat performance would go a long way to changing that. With few holes in his game, he has a chance to defend his victory.

The Sleepers – 2011 PGA Championship Betting Lines and Sleepers

Phil Mickelson hasn’t been playing his best golf in 2011 by any means, but he showed in the final round of the British Open just how good he can be. Mickelson is a big hitter off the tee and has a reputation for taking some risks on the course. While his playing style has gotten him in trouble in the past, it could pay off at the Atlanta Altheltic Club. Low scores are up for grabs for the more aggressive players, and a couple of hot streaks could be al Mickelson needs to win the PGA Championship.

He has been a staple of the top 10 in the World Golf Rankings, and Nick Watney already has a couple of wins in 2011. He is also the current leader in the FedEx Cup standings. Despite all the accomplishments, Watney has yet to win a major title. With an improved short game, he could get the monkey off his back this weekend at the PGA Championship, ending a major drought for both himself and American golfers. After all, first-time winners have been a theme this season, and Watney has the all-around game to get the job done.

Golfers to Avoid – 2011 PGA Championship Odds and Predictions

His name and past accomplishments still hold a lot of weight with oddsmakers, but Tiger Woods’ performances lately haven’t exactly inspired confidence. Throw in the fact that the PGA Championship will be just his second start since returning from an injury, and Woods becomes one of the most overrated golfers in the field. He definitely has the talent to win at any moment, but there is no denying the fact that he hasn’t had his A-game for more than a year now.

Although he won the British Open, it may be a bit premature to jump on the Darren Clarke bandwagon. After all, he is only ranked 31st in the current rankings, and he is coming off a 68th-place finish in the Bridgestone Invitational. Clarke will turn 43 years old this coming Sunday, and it is hard to believe he is just coming into his prime. Maybe his major title wasn’t a fluke, but Clarke probably won’t be celebrating his birthday with a second major title.
