2010 WGC Bridgestone Invitational Odds and Predictions – Tiger Woods the Favorite

Tiger Woods Favored to Win at WGC Bridgestone – Preview, Odds, and Predictions:  Tiger Woods has played in 10 World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational tournaments and won an amazing 7 times – more than any other event (he’s won 4 others 6 times).  He is trying to become the second player ever to win an event 8 times tying Sam Snead with 8 wins at the Greater Greensboro Open.  In only his 8th event in this shortened season this will also be a tune up to next week’s final Major the PGA. Vegas odds makers have Tiger Woods at 9/2 to win the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country club in Akron, Ohio.

A first win of the year and 1st since his public scandal of epic proportion hit last November serves as motivation for Tiger heading into this event. He is also 111th place on the season ending FedExCup which he has won twice and only the top 125 qualify for the last tournaments of the year.  Another motivator is the Ryder Cup which he is 9th in standings and the top 8 are automatic bids.  “I’m planning on playing my way into the team,” Woods said firmly — three times in all when asked whether he would accept a Captain’s Pick. Bodog’s odds makers have Tiger Woods at 7/1 odds to be leading after round one of the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.

All eyes may be on Tiger, but the field is as stout as any of the past years with ALL 50 of the top players in the World Golf Rankings scheduled to tee it up Thursday at Firestone.  Ernie Els has been leading the FedExCup since early in the season and Phil Mickelson won the Masters and has been nipping at Tigers heels for number one in the world all year.  Vegas odds makers have Els at 33/1 and Mickelson at 10/1 to win the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club.

Another player knocking on the door at all the majors and looking for a big breakout win in the states in Lee Westwood.  His precise ball striking has placed him in contention consistently but hasn’t allowed him to break through for the big win.  Odds makers at Bodog have Westwood at 14/1 to win and 18/1 to be leading after round one of the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country club in Akron, Ohio.

As I see it this is Tiger’s tournament to win.  He loves history and setting records and will no doubt be aware of his chance to tie the great Sam Snead with 8 victories at the same tournament.  Additionally, he needs to show he’s back to have his mojo going for the year’s final major, so look for Tiger to roar in red on Sunday and hoist another trophy!
