NFL Predictions: New York Giants 2010 Predictions, Schedule, Odds and Picks

New York Giants 2010 NFL Preview, Schedule, Odds, and Predictions: The New York Football Giants are looking to rebound from an awful 2009 as they move into a new Meadowlands $1.6 Billion stadium. Last year was so bad, co-owner John Mara said ““There are 8–8 seasons, and there are 8–8 seasons, this one felt a lot more like 2–14 to me.” Especially after a 5-0 start, but in their defense they were decimated by injuries on both sides of the ball to practically every area of the team at one point or another. Vegas odds makers have the New York Giants as +2100 odds to win the 2011 Super Bowl.

Head football coach Tom Coughlin hasn’t felt this much heat since 2007 when it looked like he was going to be fired and won the Super Bowl. He has good help now with offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride opening up the Giants’ passing game and giving the unit a more balanced attack. New defensive coordinator Perry Fewell has the players excited about his aggressive approach and new schemes. Coughlin needs to hold things together to keep them from unraveling as they did last season. The odds makers at BetUS have the New York Giants listed at +900 odds to win the 2010 NFC Championship.

Offensively the Giants have the talent to get back to the Super Bowl if they can stay healthy and if camp is any precursor that’s a big if? Quarterback Eli Manning had a good statistical season completing 62.3 percent of his passes and throwing for 4,021 yards, 27 touchdowns, 14 interceptions and a 93.1 rating. Marshall University alum Ahmad Bradshaw is pushing starter Brandon Jacobs for carries and the combination of speed and quickness verses power gives the Giants a solid running attack. Wide receiver Steve Smith in his third year out of USC caught 107 passes for 1,220 yards and seven touchdowns. The Vegas odds makers have the New York Giants listed at +250 odds to win the 2010 NFC East.

After getting blown off the line defensively last year the Giants used their first two draft picks on defensive linemen Jason Pierre-Paul, an end, and Linval Joseph, a tackle. The Giants also drafted a middle linebacker in the fourth round, Phillip Dillard; I see a trend of youth movement here. And completing the overhaul the Giants went out and got two defensive backs spending $37 million on Antrel Rolle and signing Deon Grant. Combine this with a new defensive coordinator and there will bound to be some getting to know you period before everyone is in sync. The odds makers at Bookamker have the New York Giants middle number listed at over/under 9 wins for the 2010 NFL regular season.

The Giants still have the personnel for a dominant pass rush, a decent secondary and an explosive offensive unit. If they stay healthy they will compete for the NFC east title but at 10-6 they will come in second to the talented Dallas Cowboys. I do predict a wildcard berth in the playoffs but not a long run!
