Free NFL Picks, News & Notes from Stephen G (week 2)

Free NFL picks by FSR blogger Stephen G.

Last week was a tough opening week for me as I went 3-6 with my picks.  I fared okay on my Sunday games going 3-2 but got skunked on my Thurs/Mon games.  Just call me the dud following the 2 studs on FSR…..

Maybe it was opening day butterflies or rust, but it’s early in the season and I’m ready to get off the schneid….

Last Week 3-6

Season 3-6

SUNDAY 9/20

Tennessee minus 6.5  A strong Titans team cannot afford to start 0-2 and get behind the 8 ball in the division to Indy.  Look for them to be focused and ready to win going away.

Pittsburgh minus 3 – Cutler stunk it up against Green Bay last week and I don’t see him getting better against a superior defense this week, do you?  Pittsburgh needs to protect Roethlisberger and if they can, I think they will cover.

New York Giants plus 3 – The G-men dominated Washington last week even though the final score didn’t show it.  (they screwed yours truly by allowing a prevent-defense TD making it a 6 pt win when the line was 6.5) The G men are good on the  road and the Cowboys are headed in the wrong direction.  Give me the points.

Cincinnati plus 9.5 –  This is one of those games where the Packers are coming off an emotional win and may be flat.  The Bengals felt they gave one away and can’t afford to start 0-2.  I don’t know if they can win it, but I’ll bank on them keeping it competitive so I’ll take the points.

Oakland plus 3 – The Raiders have the ability to win this outright plus it’s usually close in these rivalry divisional games.  They looked pretty good on both sides of the ball Monday night, give me the points.

MONDAY 9/21

Indianapolis minus 3- Even though Miami will be pumped and jacked and wanting to avoid a 0-2 start, Peyton and company will light up the Miami secondary.

Under 42 points – See a 21-10 type of game….

NFL NEWS & NOTES

Week 1 injuries – Injuries happen but you hate to see so many good players going down in one week.  There’s nothing you can do about it, but how can they be serious about an 18 game schedule when it’s so tough to keep players healthy for 16.

Bettis Rips Steelers – Did you see the Bus ripping Pittsburgh about their lack of run game?  What did they do to piss him off?  He’s right, but you usually don’t see that kind of venom so soon after retirement.

San Diego needs extension to avoid blackout – The Chargers couldn’t sell out in time and needed an extension from the league to avoid a local TV blackout.  Are you kidding me?  I can see Jacksonville or Detroit not selling out and I understand the recession and all, but c’mon!  This team is a bona fide contender for the superbowl and if you can’t sell out the home opener, what does that say about the southern California market?  “Can’t go to the game, gotta go surfing dude and catch some gnarly waves….”
