2020 NFL Mock Draft: Top 10 Picks After the Start of Free Agency

2020 NFL Mock Draft – Top 10 Picks After the Start of Free Agency: While the rest of the sporting world is shut down, the NFL league year has started as planned. Players are already agreeing to deals, and we’ve already had a bombshell trade that will send DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals. As teams begin to plug holes and address needs, the list of players they may target in the 2020 NFL Draft starts to narrow. With that in mind, let’s take a look at my updated top-10 picks.

2020 NFL Mock Draft: Top 10 Picks After the Start of Free Agency

1. Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Burrow, QB, LSU

Burrow might not have the highest ceiling of the top quarterback prospects, but he displayed elite accuracy and doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses. He’s a safe pick for a franchise that needs a change in direction.

2. Washington Redskins: Chase Young, DE, Ohio State

I’m sure Washington will be tempted to grab Tua Tagovailoa with this pick, but new head coach Ron Rivera is a defensive-minded guy, and I think it is too soon to give up on Dwayne Haskins. Young can be the game-wrecker off the edge that elevates the Redskins defense to another level.

3. TRADE: Los Angeles Chargers: Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama

With Washington passing on Tua and Tampa Bay landing Tom Brady, the Chargers will pay the price to move up and select the smooth-throwing lefty. When healthy, he’s a franchise-changer, and all the info coming out about his hip has been positive.

4. New York Giants: Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa

Coming out of Iowa, Wirfs was considered a rock solid, versatile prospect capable of playing tackle or guard. After lighting up the combine, he is the type of high-floor option the Giants love to snag in the first round.

5. Miami Dolphins: Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon

The Dolphins loaded up on the defensive side of the ball in free agency, leaving the QB spot as the biggest hole to fill. They have been connected to Tua Tagovailoa, but with the Alabama product off the board, Miami will turn to Herbert. Blessed with a cannon for an arm, Herbert answered a lot of questions about his intangibles with a strong performance during Senior Bowl week.

6. TRADE: Detroit Lions: Jeff Okudah, CB, Ohio State

After trading out of the No. 3 spot, Detroit is still able to land the best cover corner in the draft and some extra draft capital. Okudah is a Day 1 starter with the length and athleticism to thrive on an island.

7. Carolina Panthers: Isaiah Simmons, LB/S, Clemson

Carolina struggled on the defensive side of the ball last year, and that was before Luke Kuechly decided to retire. Simmons is an athletic freak, and he is a proven playmaker from both the linebacker and safety spot. He’s an every-down, plug-and-play starter.

8. Arizona Cardinals: Jedrick Wills, OT, Alabama

Following the shocking trade to acquire DeAndre Hopkins, the Cardinals can now address the offensive line with this pick. Wills might not be the physical specimen of some of the other tackles, but he is a safe bet to be a reliable starter. He will be an instant upgrade to Arizona’s porous line.

9. Jacksonville Jaguars: Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn

Jacksonville’s defense was already trending in the wrong direction, and trading away Calais Campbell won’t help matters. Brown will immediately beef up the interior of the line and bolster the run defense, and he has the quickness to make plays in the backfield from the defensive tackle spot.

10. Cleveland Browns: Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville

The Browns bolstered their offensive firepower by signing tight end Austin Hooper, and while they also added Jack Conklin, the overhaul of the offensive line continues. Becton is an absolute monster with the size and strength to be a dominant tackle.
