2018 NFL Picks & Betting Odds Week 6 – Carolina Panthers @ Washington Redskins Predictions

The Carolina Panthers are off to a 3-1 start after beating the New York Giants on a last second 63 yard field goal last Sunday at home to win 33-31. The Panthers failed to cover the -7 spread and fell to 2-2 on the season against the spread.

The Panthers look to keep pace with the New Orleans Saints in the NFC’s South Division as a win this Sunday would put the Panthers atop the division with the Saints at 4-1. In a weird scheduling quirk this season, the Panthers and Saints don’t meet until week 15 in Charlotte and play each other again to close the regular season in week 17 at New Orleans.

The Panthers are winning games but it’s not been pretty. The defense is giving up more yards per game at 375.5 then the offense is producing per game at 364.8. The offense is only averaging 5.8 yards per play while the defense is allowing 6.7 yards per play. The Panthers will have to get that turned around quick if they plan on staying in the hunt for the NFC South Division title and making a run in the playoffs should they get there.

Meanwhile, the Washington Redskins come into this week 2-2 overall and 2-2 against the spread after getting embarrassed on Monday Night Football in New Orleans. The Saints had their way with an outclassed Redskins team in front of a national audience as the Saints rolled to an easy 43-19 win.

The loss to the Saints was disappointing for the Skins as they had two weeks to prepare for the game after beating Green Bay 3-17 at home on September 23rd. The Redskins will now look to get back on the winning track and beat a Carolina team that has beaten them 5 straight times dating back to 2009.

The Redskins offense has been mediocre so far this season under new quarterback Alex Smith. The unit is putting up 358 yards per game and 5.7 yards per play while Smith has posted pedestrian stats with 4 touchdowns to 2 interceptions and a 92.9 quarterback rating. Defensively, the Skins look impressive on paper as they allow just 320.3 yards per game and 5.5 yards per play. However, that rings hollow after the way their defense was carved up like a Thanksgiving turkey this past Monday Night against Drew Brees and the Saints offense.

Carolina has had the Redskins number over the last decade and they are the better team overall in our opinion. The Skins have a quick turnaround after playing on the road Monday night and we look for the Panthers to get it done this week in a close one. Take the point.
