2018 NFL Picks & Betting Odds Week 4 – Cleveland Browns @ Oakland Raiders Predictions

The Cleveland Browns come into this game with a 1-1-1 overall record after winning their first game in almost two years last Thursday night. The Browns beat the New York Jets 21-17 on September 20th in a game that saw them rescued by top overall draft pick, quarterback Baker Mayfield. Mayfield came in for injured quarterback Tyrod Taylor and helped lead the Browns back from a 14-0 hole.

The Browns certainly look improved on both sides of the ball this season and the addition of Mayfield to their lineup makes them very intriguing. The Browns looked like a different offense with Mayfield in there and he ended up completing 17 of his 23 passes for 201 yards.

The Browns offense comes into this game averaging just 325.7 yards per game but those numbers are irrelevant now that Mayfield is running the show. The combination of Mayfield in the passing game and running back Carlos Hyde running the ball gives the Browns a very potent pass-run combo. Hyde ran for 98 yards on 23 carries with 2 touchdowns last week in the Jets win.

Defensively, the Browns have been very stout so far this year. They come in giving up 338.3 yards per game and just 5.2 yards per play. They are holding opposing quarterbacks to just a 70.1 quarterback rating.

The Oakland Raiders are still looking for their first win of the season in head coach Jon Gruden’s return season on the Silver and Black sideline. The Raiders lost 28-20 last Sunday at the Miami Dolphins and now come home after being on the road the last two weeks.

The Raiders offense has really struggled so far this season in terms of putting points on the scoreboard. The unit averages 440.7 yards per game and 6.2 yards per play but have only scored 13, 19 and 20 points in their first three games. That’s not going to get it done in the NFL especially with a far from dominant Raiders defense.

The Raiders defense is giving up 374.3 yards per game and 7 yards per play thru 3 games. The trade of former Raiders linebacker Khalil Mack is still a head scratcher as those type of players are few and far between in the NFL and Gruden decided he could get by without him. He thought wrong in our eyes.

We look for this to be a tight game but we are going to put our money down on the Raiders. The Browns are improved but it’s tough for us to back a rookie quarterback making his first start on the road and against a team that is hungry for their first win on the season. Look for the Raiders to finally get it done and cover the spread.
