2019 Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 Odds & Predictions: Favorites, Value Bets & Sleepers at Darlington Raceway

2019 Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 Odds & Predictions – Favorites, Value Bets & Sleepers at Darlington Raceway: The NASCAR XFINITY Series leaves the road courses behind for a bit and returns to a high-speed intermediate oval this weekend. Darlington Raceway will play host to Saturday’s Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200, and the egg-shaped oval is one of the most challenging and most historic tracks on the schedule.

Darlington is often referred to as NASCAR’s first superspeedway, and the track’s rich history makes winning here that much more special. With the Cup Series also in town, it is no surprise to see a few big names pulling double duty as they try to add a Darlington win to their resumes. Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney will both be in the field, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. is scheduled to come out of the announcer’s booth to drive in the race.

For a closer look at the big names worth betting on this weekend and some potential sleepers, check out my betting preview for the XFINITY Series Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 at Darlington Raceway.

2019 Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 Odds & Predictions: Favorites, Value Bets & Sleepers at Darlington Raceway

The Favorites

Denny Hamlin

Few drivers have ever dominated at a single track the way Hamlin has at Darlington. In 11 XFINITY starts, he has compiled an unbelievable 2.7 average finish. He has finished in the top five in his last nine starts here, picking up five wins during that stretch and leading more than 30 laps seven times. If you like investing heavily in the safest option, I recommend backing Hamlin in a big way.

Ryan Blaney

The Cup star will pilot a second Team Penske entry this weekend, and when Blaney enters an XFINITY race, he is usually a major player. In 18 starts for Team Penske since 2017, he has notched three wins and 17 top-five finishes. Blaney has also led laps in all but two of those starts, leading double-digit laps 15 times. He is going to be in the mix for the win.

Christopher Bell

Fresh off a win last weekend, Bell heads to Darlington with a series-high six wins in 2019. Week in and week out, he is a contender for wins, and he is one of the only XFINITY regulars who has shown the ability to win races when there are Cup drivers in the field. Bell has led more than 1,200 laps this year, almost 500 more than any other driver. He is your best option if you want to fade the big names.

Value Bets

Dale Earnhardt Jr.

He hasn’t been in a Cup car since 2017, but Junior did do a one-off XFINITY race last year at Richmond, leading 96 laps and finishing fourth. Despite little seat time for the better part of two years, his performance at Richmond is a reminder that he can still make some noise behind the wheel, especially at the XFINITY level where his overall experience will be a major factor.

Cole Custer

He has picked up five wins already in 2019, and Custer has shown he can outduel some big names if need be. He held off Kyle Busch to win at Auto Club early in the year, and he was too much for Joey Logano to handle in a win at Kentucky. After a runner-up finish at Darlington last year, Custer is a realistic alternative to the top options if you want a little more room for profit with your bet.

Tyler Reddick

Reddick has a couple of things going for him this weekend at Darlington. For one, he has been the most consistent driver in the series all year, and he currently leads all drivers with a 5.0 average finish, 18 top-five finishes and 20 top-10s in 2019. He is also excellent at using the high line, which happens to be the preferred groove at Darlington. Reddick finished third in this race last season, so don’t be surprised if he is able to push for the win Saturday night.

Sleeper Special

Chase Briscoe

Darlington is a tough track, and if you can stay near the front and keep your car clean until the finish, you have a chance to make something happen. Briscoe has been one of the best at hanging near the front this year, and he currently ranks second in the series with 18 top-10s. He has actually finished seventh or better in each of the last seven races heading into Darlington, and he stole a win at Iowa during that stretch thanks to a great restart late in the race. Briscoe should be within striking distance again this weekend, giving him a chance at springing another upset.
