2019 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Odds & Predictions: Favorites and Bad Bets

2019 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Odds2019 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Odds & Predictions – Favorites and Bad Bets: With the Daytona 500 out of the way, the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season can really start to begin. The season opener might be the sport’s most famous event, but it is not a great predictor of what to expect throughout the season. We will start to paint a clearer picture this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

The 1.5-mile oval will host Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, and historically, the mile-and-a-half tracks tend to be kind to the big names and top teams. NASCAR’s new rules package designed to reduce horsepower could throw a bit of a wrinkle into that trend, but the best drivers and teams are still likely to figure out the new rules faster than the competition.

With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at my top betting options, as well as some big names to avoid, for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta.

2019 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Odds & Predictions

Favorites to Bet

Kevin Harvick (+400)

Harvick is the defending winner of this weekend’s race, and he has been a force at Atlanta since joining Stewart-Haas Racing. He has led more than 100 laps in all five of his starts here with SHR, and no driver seems to have figured out the track’s worn out surface better than Harvick. He is by far the safest bet on the board this weekend.

Joey Logano (+700)

He was a consistent top-10 threat at the mile-and-a-half ovals in2018, and Logano kept getting stronger as the year went on, capping things off with his title-clinching win at Homestead. He’s been just as dependable at Atlanta, reeling off six straight top-15s and posting the second-best average finish of any driver during that stretch. Logano finished sixth at Atlanta last year, and he should be right back in the mix for the win this Sunday.

Brad Keselowski (+700)

Over the last five races at Atlanta, Keselowski has built a resume that stacks up with any driver out there. He has four top-10s in that stretch, and he has also led laps in four of those five races. Keselowski won the 2017 event at the track, and he followed that up with a second-place effort here a year ago. Regarded as one of the best on worn surfaces, it is no surprise that he has had success at Atlanta. As a bonus, Keselowski has a little more room for profit compared to the other favorites.

Chase Elliott (+1000)

He has made three Cup Series starts at Atlanta, and Elliott has finished inside the top 10 in all of them, picking up a Top 5 in 2017. It’s also worth noting that the Atlanta race falls early in the year, and Elliott found another gear in the second half of last year, winning three times. I expect this weekend’s trip to Atlanta to be his best yet.

Bad Bets

Kyle Larson (+900)

I love Larson as a driver, but he is tied for the fourth-best odds to win this weekend and has never won a race at a mile-and-a-half track. I’m also a little worried that NASCAR’s new, reduced-horsepower package is going to hurt him more than most. Larson loves to use the high line, but if everyone can hold the throttle wide open for longer stretches, the high line loses its advantage. For the same odds, Brad Keselowski is a much better option.

Clint Bowyer (+1400)

I know Bowyer had a great run at Atlanta last year when he finished third, but his body of work at the track leaves a lot to be desired. In fact, last year’s third-place run was his first Top 5 finish at the track in 18 attempts. The move to Stewart-Haas Racing has certainly boosted his performance, but I’m not buying into Bowyer as one of the favorites at a track where he has historically been mediocre.
