Favorites to Bet

Christopher Bell (3/2)

He has three wins under his belt already this season, and Bell has been a factor in every race. He has led multiple laps in all 13 starts, leading 30-plus laps an incredible eight times. He has been pretty impressive at Iowa, as well. Bell was the runner-up in this race last year, and he went to victory lane in the July event. He has also led laps in all three of his starts at Iowa, leading more than 90 laps in two of those races. Bell will be at the front with a shot at the win Sunday.

Cole Custer (14/5)

Custer is tied for the series lead with three wins in 2019, and he also has three straight top-10 finishes at Iowa. More importantly, he has led laps in both races here a year ago, leading a race-high 106 laps in the July race at the track. Custer is one of the main contenders week in and week out, and there is no reason that should change at a track where he has already run up front a lot.

Tyler Reddick (9/2)

Reddick just won’t cool off, and after his win at Michigan last weekend, he boasts an impressive 3.9 average finish heading into Iowa. Overall, he has 12 top-10s, 10 top-five finishes and three wins through the first 13 races, and he has eight finishes of third or better in the last 10 races alone races. It doesn’t matter what track. Reddick is going to be a major player.

Value Bets

Justin Allgaier (13/2)

It has been a checkers-or-wreckers-type season for Allgaier, he knows how to get the job done at Iowa. He has cracked the top 10 in five of his six starts at the track, and he has led more than 100 laps in two of his last three starts here. In fact, Allgaier won this race last year, leading a race-high 182 laps in the process. He could dominate this weekend, and he offers a little more room for profit than the other favorites.

Chase Briscoe (25/1)

Briscoe has been the model of consistency this season, and he heads into Iowa with a 7.7 average finish, 12 top-15s and 10 top-10s in the first 13 races. Last year, he managed a Top 10 finish in his Iowa debut despite driving for a mediocre Roush Fenway Racing organization. This weekend, Briscoe will have some of the best equipment on the track when he pilots the Stewart-Haas Racing No. 98. His 25/1 odds aren’t bad for a driver who is basically a lock to be running near the front.

Noah Gragson (50/1)

High expectations were met by average results for Gragson in his first full-time season in the XFINITY Series, but he has started to find his footing for the No. 9 JR Motorsports team. He has finished sixth or better in three straight races coming into Iowa, finishing second last weekend at Michigan. His odds have not caught up to his performance yet, so I recommend jumping on him at 50/1 this weekend at Iowa.

John Hunter Nemechek (60/1)

Nemechek has been a steady top-10 performer all year, but Iowa could be a track where he could really breakout. He finished fifth here last July while running a part-time schedule, and he is a former winner at the track in the Truck Series. Nemechek’s aggressive style and restart prowess tend to come in handy at short tracks, and there is a lot of profit to be made at 60/1 odds.

Sleeper Special

Ryan Sieg (100/1)

I know Sieg has never won an XFINITY race, but I also know that he is in the middle of the best year of his career. In fact, he has already set career highs in both top-five finishes and top-10s after just 13 of 33 races. By the way, the best finish of his career came at Iowa in 2017 when he finished second. Sieg has been a top-10 threat evert week, yet he is getting the same 100/1 odds to win as Joe Graf Jr., who was the only driver too slow to qualify at Michigan last weekend, and Shane Lee, who is making his first start of the year for a start-up team. If you are throwing some money at a longshot, Sieg is by far the best bet on the board.
