2013 Toyota Owners 400 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Kyle Busch the Vegas Favorite

2013-Toyota-Owners-400-Odds-Predictions-and-Free-Picks2013 Toyota Owners 400 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Toyota Owners 400 Favorites and Sleepers to Win on April 27, 2013 at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia: The Cup Series heads to Richmond International Raceway this weekend, marking the return of short track racing. Richmond actually offers the best of both worlds with the track’s 0.75-mile layout being big enough to produce fast speeds while remaining small enough for drivers to engage in controlled bumping and banging. Not surprisingly, Richmond is usually one of the favorite tracks of both drivers and fans.

Last spring, a series of lucky breaks eventually put Kyle Busch in Victory Lane. The night began with Carl Edwards dominating the action and leading a race-high 206 laps. However, a mix-up on a restart resulted in Edwards being penalized for passing before the start/finish line, ending his chances for victory. Tony Stewart assumed command from there and was out front late in the race when NASCAR threw a questionable caution for debris. The late restart allowed Busch to sneak by and grab the lead, and he wouldn’t look back from there.

The Favorites

He already has two wins under his belt in 2013, and now, Kyle Busch gets to head to his best track. In 16 starts at Richmond, he has compiled a series-leading 5.4 average finish and has finished sixth or better 13 times. More importantly, he has won the spring race at the track in each of the last four seasons. There is a lot to love about Busch as he goes for a five-peat in this weekend’s race.

Not only does Clint Bowyer know how to finish near the front at Richmond, but he also knows how to seal the deal and get to Victory Lane. His 9.6 average finish at the short track is the third best in the series, and in 14 starts, he has 12 finishes of 12th or better. Bowyer has finished seventh or better in five of his last seven starts at Richmond, including a win in the fall race last year that have him two career victories at the track.

The Dark Horses

Normally, Jimmie Johnson would be on the short list of favorites. However, the five-time champ has been very up and down at Richmond, and since the start of the 2003 season, he has a pedestrian 16.0 average finish at the track. That being said, Johnson is also a three-time Richmond winner. He isn’t a lock to be at the front of the field Saturday night, but if he is in contention, don’t be surprised if he takes care of business and scores the win.

Despite entering Saturday’s race in the middle of a major slump, Tony Stewart can’t be written off completely. After all, he is a three-time winner at Richmond, and he has finished second four times since his last victory at the track. Meanwhile, Stewart has reeled off four straight top-10s at RIR, including finishes of third and fourth last year. He could easily bust out of his slump in a big way Saturday night.

Although Jeff Gordon hasn’t won at Richmond in over a decade, he has been in contention on a routine basis. In his last 12 starts at the track, Gordon has cracked the top 10 nine times. More importantly, he has finished fourth or better six times during the stretch. In fact, he has finished third or better four times in his last seven starts, including a runner-up effort last fall.

Sleeper Special

Veteran Mark Martin isn’t really thought of as a short track ace these days, but he has still been getting the job done at Richmond. In his last 10 starts at the track, he has finished in the top 10 seven times and has five top-five finishes. Martin has also been in a groove at RIR recently, notching three straight top-10s and improving his result in all three races. He finished third in the fall race at the track last year so if the upward trend continues, Martin could be standing in Victory Lane this weekend.

Big Name to Avoid

He has carried the banner for Richard Childress Racing all year, and Paul Menard enters Saturday’s race sitting inside the top 10 in points. That being said, his strong start to 2013 could hit a serious road block at Richmond. In 12 career starts at the short track, he has a dismal 27.1 average finish and has never finished inside the top 10. Worse yet, he has just a sinlge top-15 finish at RIR compared to five finishes of 30th or worse.
