2013 Federated Auto Parts 400 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Kyle Busch the Vegas Favorite

2013-Federated-Auto-Parts-400-Odds-Free-Picks-and-Predictions2013 Federated Auto Parts 400 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Kyle Busch the Vegas Favorite: The Cup Series heads to Richmond International Raceway this weekend for the final race of the 2013 regular season. With several playoff spots still up for grabs, the intensity promises to be at an all-time high. Meanwhile, there promises to be plenty of strategies at work as different teams manage the race differently depending on their situation. The same scenario was in play last year, and with Denny Hamlin already in the Chase, he elected to stay on the track when a caution flew for rain with 276 laps to go. However, the race was eventually restarted, and despite leading 202 of the 400 laps, Hamlin was forced to make an extra pit stop and was eliminated from contention. On the flip side, Clint Bowyer was among the drivers that chose to pit under the caution for rain, and he would go on to win the race.

The Favorites

Fresh off a win at Atlanta, Kyle Busch heads to a track that might be his best. His 6.5 average finish at Richmond is the best in the series, and in 17 starts, he has finished in the top five on 12 occasions. More importantly, Busch has four wins at RIR and he has finished either first or second eight times.

He is the defending winner of this weekend’s race, and Clint Bowyer has always been one of the best at Richmond. His 9.1 average finish at the track is the third best among active drivers, and in 15 starts, he has only finished outside the top 12 twice. Meanwhile, Bowyer has a 3.3 average finish at Richmond since joining Michael Waltrip Racing in 2012, and he has finished first and second in his last two starts at the track.

After winning at Richmond earlier this year, Kevin Harvick will try for the season sweep at the track this weekend. He has always been one of the most consistent drivers at the short track, and in his last 18 starts, he has 14 top-10s. Harvick also has three wins during the stretch, including two in his the last four starts.

The Dark Horses

Although Matt Kenseth has just two top-10s in his last 12 starts at Richmond, both have come in his last two starts at the track. Kenseth finished fifth at the track last fall, and he finished seventh earlier this year. He also led the most laps in the spring race this year, and despite mediocre overall numbers, Kenseth is clearly trending up. Throw in the fact that he leads the series with five wins in 2013, and he can’t be overlooked this weekend.

Despite just two top-10s in nine starts at Richmond, Joey Logano is running well enough right now to win anywhere. In the six races leading up to Saturday night’s Federated Auto Parts 400, he has scored 30 more points than any other driver in the series. Logano also finished a career-best third at Richmond earlier this year.

Sleeper Special

It has been a long time since Jeff Burton has been to victory lane, but the veteran has been dialed in at Richmond recently. He finished sixth at the track last September, and finished fifth earlier this year. Not to mention the fact that Burton was actually leading on the final restart of the spring race this season before settling for a top-five finish.

Big Name to Avoid

Defending series champion Brad Keselowski needs a strong run to even make the Chase this year, but history doesn’t bode well. In eight starts at Richmond, he has just two top-10s finishes, and he has never recorded a top-five at the track. A Chase berth will be hard to come by for Keselowski, and win will be even harder.
