2013 Dollar General 300 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Johnson and Kenseth the Vegas Favorites: The Nationwide Series heads to Chicagoland Speedway this weekend, and with the Cup Series preparing to begin the Chase at the same track, there are several Cup title contenders looking to grab some extra practice by pulling double duty. Of the four Chasers in the field, three have won multiple races at Chicagoland at the Nationwide level. Meanwhile, there are several series regulars that have strong records at the track, as well. Add it up, and a competitive race should be on tap this weekend.
2013 Dollar General 300 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions
The Favorites
Not only does Kyle Busch lead the Nationwide Series in victories this season, but he has been on a tear at Chicagoland lately. He has five top-five finishes in his last six starts at the track, and in his last five starts, he has two wins and two second-place finishes. At this point, it is more of a surprise when Busch isn’t a major factor for the win.
After picking up a win at Chicagoland earlier this year, Joey Logano will try for the season sweep at the track this weekend. Considering he has three top-two finishes in five starts at the 1.5-mile oval, he has a good chance to pull it off. Not to mention the fact that his 6.4 average finish at Chicagoland is the best among drivers with at least five starts.
While he actually struggled in his first two Nationwide starts at Chicagoland, Kevin Harvick has been dialed in at the track ever since. He has finished seventh or better in five of his last seven starts. More importantly, he has made two visits to victory lane during the stretch.
The Dark Horses
Although he has only made three starts at Chicagoland, Austin Dillon’s 4.0 average finish at the track is technically the best in the series. He has finished sixth or better in all three starts, and he has finished third in each of his last two starts. Meanwhile, both of Dillon’s Nationwide wins have come at tracks with the same 1.5-mile layout as Chicagoland.
He is still looking for his first win at Chicagoland, but Brian Vickers has been a contender in almost every start at the track. He has cracked the top five in four straight starts, including a fifth-place run earlier this year. Vickers has somehow managed to not win a race in 2013 despite leading all series regulars with 12 top-five finishes, but he should have another shot at a win this weekend.
Since returning to the series full time, Elliott Sadler has been on a tear at Chicagoland. He has finished 11th or better in his last five starts at the track and has finished eighth or better in his last four starts. More importantly, Sadler won at Chicagoland in 2012, and earlier this year, he led the most laps and finished fourth.
Sleeper Special
Sam Hornish Jr. just keeps getting better at Chicagoland. In four starts at the track, he has never finished outside the top 10, and his 5.8 average finish is the second best among drivers in the field this weekend. Throw in the fact that he finished a career-best second at the track earlier this year, and Hornish could definitely pull off the upset his weekend.
Big Name to Avoid
Although he is in the thick of the title hunt, Regan Smith could be playing damage control this weekend. After all, he has a dismal 26.8 average finish in four Nationwide starts at Chicagoland, and Smith is still looking for his first top-10 finish at the track. He has shown no signs of being able to contend for the win at Chicagoland this weekend.
