2011 Toyota/Save Mart 350 – Post-Practice Predictions and Top 5 Drivers

2011 Toyota/Save Mart 350 Post-Practice Predictions, Picks, Tips and Preview – Favorites and Sleepers to Win 2011 Toyota/Save Mart 350: With all the pit strategy that goes into winning a road course event, it isn’t uncommon to see a few surprise names in the mix for the win. After practice at Infineon Saturday, the chances of seeing a surprise winner got even better. Several drivers that haven’t had a lot of success at road racing were very strong during the afternoon sessions. Bettors looking to hit it big with an underdog could do just that this weekend.

2011 Toyota/Save Mart 350 – Post-Practice Top 5

Brad Keselowski: Although he struggled in his only start at Infineon, Keselowski was a stud throughout the practice sessions Saturday. He posted the 13th-fastest lap in the first practice, and he topped the charts in Happy Hour. In addition, he posted the best 10-lap average speed in both sessions. Keselowski may not have a history of success, but he has a very fast car for Sunday’s race.

Kurt Busch: The Penske Racing teams must have figured something out because Busch joined his teammate Keselowski near the top of the charts all afternoon. He had the second-fastest lap in the first session, and he ranked third in the final practice. Busch has finished in the top five three times at Infineon, and if he can avoid the bad luck that has plagued him at the track, he is more than capable of winning Sunday.

Jamie McMurray: He doesn’t really have a history of success when it comes to road racing, but McMurray was consistently among the best cars Saturday. After posting the fastest lap of the opening session, he followed it up with the second-fastest lap in Happy Hour. He also added the second-best 10-lap average speed. Throw in the fact that he is starting on the front row, and McMurray looks like a pretty option this weekend.

Clint Bowyer: Bowyer was a staple of the top five throughout the two practice sessions Saturday. He posted the third-fastest time in the first practice, and he stayed hot with the fifth-fastest lap in Happy Hour. Bowyer has finished eighth or better in three of his last four starts at Infineon, including a pair of fourth-place finishes. His first road course win could be in the works.

Ryan Newman: He ranked seventh and eighth in the two practices Saturday, and Newman has a history of consistent performances at the 12-turn road course. He has never finished outside the top 20 at the track, and he has finished as high as second at a road course. Newman always seems to be in the mix at Infineon, and he could end up winning if he catches a few breaks.

2011 Toyota/Save Mart 350 – Post-Practice Top Sleeper

A.J. Allmendinger: He posted the fifth-fastest lap in Happy Hour, and Allmendinger stayed solid in Happy Hour with the 12th-fastest lap. He is an experienced road racer, and he has finished as high as seventh at Infineon. Allmendinger has been getting better with each passing season, and after a top-five finish at Watkins Glen last year, he could be ready for his first career Cup win.
