2011 Great Clips 300 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Favorites to Win and Drivers to Watch

2011 Great Clips 300 Odds, Predictions, Betting Tips and Free Picks – Favorites and Lines to Win the Great Clips 300: While a lot of Cup drivers choose to run in the Nationwide Series for added seat time or even because of sponsorship obligations, there is a different reason some choose to pull double duty at Atlanta. The fast, 1.5-mile track is one of the most popular among drivers because of the multiple racing grooves. Three-wide racing can be done comfortably, and the Nationwide race at AMS is one where big names show up just to have a little fun.

Last fall, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Jamie McMurray took turns dominating the action. Harvick ultimately got off sequence on pit stops, which ended up costing him track position for the stretch run. Busch appeared to have the car beat until the final pit stop when he entered first and came out third. Meanwhile, McMurray took the lead on the same round of stops and was able to hold off a hard charging Busch in the closing laps. Cup drivers claimed the first six spots.

The Favorites – 2011 Great Clips 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

Although he has never won a Nationwide race at Atlanta, Kyle Busch has been close on several occasions. He has finished second in his last two starts at the track and has four finishes of third or better in his last six starts. After leading the most laps last fall, Busch will be looking to close the deal this weekend and add to his record-setting number of victories in the series.

Carl Edwards began his Atlanta career with a trip to Victory Lane. He hasn’t made a return trip, but he has finished in the top 10 in five of his six career starts. Edwards has finished seventh or better in his last four starts at AMS, finishing fourth or better on three occasions. The extra power being put out by the Ford engines this season could be just what he needs to nail down his second win at Atlanta.

In eight starts at Atlanta since 2001, Kevin Harvick has never finished outside the top 15. He has been even better at the track in recent years, piling up four straight finishes of fourth or better, including a win and two second-place efforts. Harvick led a good portion of the race last fall before pit strategy backfired. He and his No. 33 team will be out to make amends for that mistake this weekend.

Considering he is the defending winner of this weekend’s race, overlooking Jamie McMurray would be a big mistake. He hasn’t been the most consistent driver at the 1.5-mile track, but he does have two wins at AMS since 2002. McMurray is the only driver in this weekend’s race that can make that claim, and that makes him worth watching.

His last three starts at Atlanta in the Nationwide Series haven’t gone as planned, but Kasey Kahne could still make some noise this weekend. From 2003 to 2007, he reeled off five straight finishes of seventh or better at the track. If Kahne can avoid the bad luck that has plagued him in recent years, he could bust out of his slump with a trip to Victory Lane.

Solid finishes throughout the year have kept Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the thick of the title hunt, and he should be in for another solid run this weekend. He finished 10th in his only career start at Atlanta, and with another year of experience, a career night is definitely a possibility. Of the non-Cup drivers in the field, Stenhouse Jr. may have the best chance at pulling off an upset.

There have been some ups and downs at Atlanta for Jason Leffler in his Nationwide career, but lately, he has been more boom than bust. He has three finishes of eighth or better in his last five starts at the track, including a seventh-place run last season. Leffler has never been able to challenge Cup drivers for the win, but he always seems to be lurking and could take advantage if something unexpected unfolds.

He is longshot in every sense of the word, but Ryan Truex is a name bettors need to keep in the back of their minds. The younger brother of two-time Nationwide Series champ Martin Truex Jr. has been touted as even more talented than his older sibling. Truex will be making his first start for Joe Gibbs Racing this weekend, and armed with some of the best equipment in the sport, he will get a chance to show his stuff.

He has certainly shown a lot of promise as a young driver, but Trevor Bayne has had his issues at Atlanta thus far. He has failed to crack the top 15 in his two starts at the track, and he actually got worse in his second attempt. Bayne will likely improve on his 24th-place finish from last fall, but he is still a long way from competing for wins at AMS.

A trip to Atlanta probably isn’t going to help Reed Sorenson’s title hopes. The track ranks as one of his worst on the schedule, and in six career starts, he has just one finish inside the top 15. Sorenson has four finishes of 29th or worse at AMS.
