Cleveland Indians @ Chicago White Sox Odds and Picks – MLB Betting 4/7/10

Vegas odds for today’s Cleveland Indians @ Chicago White Sox American League Central showdown are now up on NSAwins.com and vegas linemakers have installed the Chicago White Sox a -160 favorite with the total set at 8.5. The White Sox won the season opener 6-0 over the Indians on monday in the 1st of a three game series to start the 2010 season. Jake Peavy will make his season debut atop the mound tonight for the White Sox and the former 2007 National League Cy Young Award Winner is being counted on by Chicago to give them a big season. Peavy was 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA in just three starts for the White Sox last season after being acquired in a July 31st trade from San Diego. The 31-year-old right-hander was out at the time of the trade with an ankle tendon injury that limited him to only 13 starts with San Diego in 2009. The hard throwing native of Mobile, AL, returned in September and dominated in all three of his starts, giving the club high expectations that he would solidify the top of the rotation along with Mark Buehrle this season. “I’m excited to start this chapter of my career,” said Peavy. “I’m part of something that we hope is going to be special and we believe in the group that we have assembled. We believe we can accomplish some cool things, and that starts with winning the (AL) Central.” Cleveland will counter today with Fausto Carmona on the hill. While Peavy is looking to turn the clock back to his workhorse ways, Carmona will be looking to return to the form that allowed him to dominate – going 19-8 with a 3.06 ERA in 2007. The 26-year-old right-hander from Santo Domingo has struggled with his control the last two seasons and was 5-12 with a 6.32 ERA in 2009, when the Indians demoted him him to the minors for almost two months to work on his command. Carmona went 3-0 with an 1.38 ERA in spring training and is confident he can have a big season. “I’m ready to go,” Carmona told the ballclub’s official Web site. “I’m taking it easy on the mound and throwing strikes. I’m not trying to do too much. I want to do the same thing here that I did in spring training. I’m not going to change anything.” While Carmona started only once against Chicago last season, he is 4-0 in his last four starts against them with a 2.03 ERA. Peavy has not faced the Indians since 2005 and is 1-1 with a 5.91 ERA against them.
