2019 NL East Division Odds & Predictions – MLB Baseball Betting Preview

Projected Division Champion

Philadelphia Phillies(+200 Odds to Win)

The Phillies are the favorites to win the division because of their big free agent signing of Bryce Harper last week. The former Nationals star signed a 13 year $330 million with the Phillies and becomes the face of the franchise for years to come. Philadelphia finished 80-82 last season and that was a nice improvement from the 66-96 record they had in 2017. The Phillies needed a boost offensively to make another jump this season and that’s why the Harper signing was so huge. Philly finished just 29th in batting, 21st in runs, 15th in home runs and 23rd in slugging last year. If Harper can get back to the player he was in 2015 when he hit 42 dingers and batted .330 than the Phillies offense will be a different animal this year. We like their pitching staff with Aaron Nola and Jake Arrieta leading the rotation and think it’s good enough to win the division if the offense does it’s part.

Projected Wild Card

Atlanta Braves(+300 Odds to Win)

Atlanta won the NL East last season with a 90-72 record. That was a huge 18 win jump from their 72-90 finish in 2017. The Braves have the best collection of young talent in the division and last season was no fluke in our eyes. These guys can play. The offense finished 5th in the majors last year in batting, 11th in slugging and 10th in runs scored. They did lack some pop as they finished just 19th in home runs. However, we expect them to hit for power this season as their young players keep gaining experience. Atlanta’s pitching staff is also solid as they finished 7th in ERA last season and held opponents to the 2nd worst batting average in the bigs at just .229. Make no mistake, Atlanta is for real and can win the NL East again.

Possible Wild Card

Washington Nationals(+225 Odds to Win)

The Nationals finished 82-80 last season after winning 95 games plus in both of the previous seasons. Washington looks to bounce back and reclaim the division this season under 2nd year manager Dave Martinez. Martinez struggled in his rookie season as the Nationals skipper but had the team playing very good in the 2nd half of the season after a bad first half. Washington’s offense was the best in the National League in the 2nd half last season and should be potent again despite losing Harper. The Nationals still have a top notch rotation headlined by Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg. Don’t count the Nationals out from winning the division or making the Wild Card this season. They will be good.

New York Mets(+250 Odds to Win)

The Mets finished just 77-85 last season but did improve 7 games from their 70-92 finish in 2017. New York’s main problem is an offense that struggles get on base, hit for power and steal bags. They finished in the bottom third of the majors in almost all offensive categories last year. However, they traded for former Mariners and Yankees standout Robinson Cano and they hope he can add life to their offense. Cano is now 36 years old so we are skeptical he can lead this offense but at least there is hope. The good news for Mets fans is there pitching staff is talented and can keep them in games and in the NL East race for much of the season.

No Chance at Making Playoffs

Miami Marlins(+35000 Odds to Win)

Miami stinks. Period. Let’s cut right to the chase. The Marlins finished 63-98 last season and they will probably finish even worse this season. They can’t hit or pitch. They are terrible across the board. We won’t waste any more time talking about this team because they don’t deserve it.

2019 National League East – Odds To Win

Atlanta Braves +300
Miami Marlins +35000
New York Mets +250
Philadelphia Phillies +200
Washington Nationals +225
