Week 3 College Football Power Rankings from NSAwins.com – Florida #1

NSAwins.com has posted it’s Week 3 College Football Power Rankings for the 2009 season. The following rankings are compiled by taking the Top 25 votes sent to us from NSAwins.com’s Sports Handicapping Experts(The LEGEND, Gerry “BIG CAT” Andino, Lou Panelli, Steve “SCOOP” Kendall, and William E. Stockton), as well as from NSAwins.com’s “FINAL SCORE REPORT” blog’s founders and contributing authors(Stephen G. and David E.). These rankings will be updated every monday throughout the College Football regular season and after the completion of the Bowl Season. Please keep in mind that these power rankings are based on current records and performances and not a prediction on how we think teams will end up at the end of the season or how two teams would fare if they played one another. Below is the Week 3 College Football Top 25 power rankings from NSAwins.com.

NSAwins.com’s Week 3 College Football Top 25

This Week’s “SUPER 15″(Teams Ranked 1-15 in NSAwins.com’s Poll)

NOTE: ALL Records thru September 13, 2009
RK(LW), TEAM, RECORD
#1(1) Florida Gators 2-0 Crushed Troy 56-6. Now have outscored it’s two opponents 118-9. The SEC schedule starts this week at home versus Tennessee. Look for the Gators to roll big again.
#2(2) – Texas Longhorns 2-0 Ended up beating Wyoming 41-10, but was only up 14-10 at the half. Maybe this team is simply unmotivated at the moment, but we expected more dominance from this group. A big revenge game this week versus Texas Tech at home should get this team to finally bring it’s “A” game. We’re anxious to see what the Horns can do when they “bring it”.
#3(3) – LSU Tigers 2-0 Solid workman-like win last saturday at home 23-9 over Vanderbilt. Nothing fancy, just hard-nosed LSU football. We are higher than most on the Tigers this year as the other polls still have the Tigers ranked #8(USA TODAY) and #9(AP), but we’re sticking to our guns that this team will be a force as the season progresses.
#4(4) – USC Trojans 2-0 Solid win saturday night at Columbus. Impressive final drive by the true frosh Barkley. The win was just further proof that Pete Carroll is hands down one of the top 2(the other being Urban Meyer) head coaches in all of College Football. This guy gets it done year after year after year. The players change, the non-conference schedule is always tough, but Carroll always has the Trojans getting W’s.
#5(5) – Alabama Crimson Tide 2-0 Struggled in the 1st half last saturday versus Florida International, as they only led 20-14 at the half. No worries, however, as the real Bama team showed up in the 2nd half and dominated en route to a 40-14 win.
#6(7) – Oklahoma Sooners 1-1 We said last week not to write off the Sooners. An impressive 64-0 win over Idaho St is why. Sure, it was just Idaho St, but don’t take away the fact that Oklahoma came out and brought their “A” game even though they could have sulked after losing to BYU and losing Sam Bradford in their opener. The Sooners should still end up playing in a BCS bowl. Book it.
#7(8) – TCU Horned Frogs 1-0 We told you last week in our rankings that TCU would get it done convincingly at Virginia. That’s exactly what they did in an impressive 30-14 blowout. Gary Patterson’s team can flat out play, folks. A BCS bowl is not out of the question for this team.
#8(9) – Boise St Broncos 2-0 The Broncos crushed Miami Ohio 48-0 last saturday and now travel to Fresno St on friday for their WAC opener. If Boise St can get by the Bulldogs, than just a road game at Tulsa(Oct 14) should stand in their way of another undefeated regular season.
#9(6) – Ohio St Buckeyes 1-1 We rank teams on how good they are compared to the rest of the nation. Not on records. Therefore, even at 1-1, the Buckeyes still are a Top 10 team in our eyes after losing a game 18-15 that it probably should have won this past saturday against a tough USC team. Make no mistake, the Buckeyes are still the BEST team in the BIG 10 this season.
#10(11) – BYU Cougars 2-0 BYU is #10 this week after beating Tulane 54-13 to improve to 2-0, but we still have question marks about this team. Like we said last week they would be 1-1 if Bradford had not of gotten hurt in the OU game and would be a Top 20 and not a Top 10 team had it lost. A tough game this week at home versus Florida St will let us know if BYU is for “real” or just a one-time upset wonder like many teams in the past.
#11(12) – Penn St Nittany Lions 2-0 It’s a joke that Penn St is ranked #5 in the AP and USA Today polls. Joe Pa’s team has beaten Akron and Syracuse. Big deal. When you schedule Akron, Syracuse, Temple, and Eastern Illinois as your non league opponents, than you should not get rewarded by the pollsters. Joe Pa needs to stop worrying about stacking up easy wins for his overall career win total and start getting his team prepared to play the BIG BOYS in january by playing a tougher schedule. You play in the BIG 10 Joe Pa, not the SEC. Play SOMEBODY!
#12(13) – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 2-0 The Jackets came out like a force against Clemson in their opener by rolling out to a 24-0 1st half lead. However, it had to hold on for dear life after Clemson stormed back in the 2nd half. The Jackets won 30-27 on a late FG, but GT’s one trick pony offense better get better in the passing game if it wants to truly become a bonafide Top 10 team.
#13(14) – Mississippi Rebels 1-0 We refuse to rank this team in the Top 10 until they prove they belong. The AP and USA Today polls have these guys ranked #5 and #6, but not us. They might have won a couple big games last season, but that was 2008 and this is 2009. We are not sold on this team being anyting “special”. Maybe they’ll prove us wrong, but until they beat somebody good they will not win over our approval.
#14(15) – Virginia Tech Hokies 1-1 Impressive 52-10 win last saturday versus an overmatched Marshall team. Big game this week at home versus Nebraska. Should be a great game to watch. Give Frank Beamer his due… he is never scared to play ANYONE in his non league schedule. Maybe he can teach Joe Pa a thing or two. Beamer gets our utmost respect on all levels. Great coach.
#15(16) – California Golden Bears 2-0 Cal has outscored two cream puffs(Maryland, Eastern Wash) 111-20 in it’s two opening games. Impressive. However, let’s see the Bears beat somebody good before we start pronouncing this team a Top 10 team like the AP and USA Today pollsters seem to believe they are already. We’ll see just how good the Bears are on September 26th when they travel up to Eugene to take on Oregon.

BEST of the REST(Teams Ranked 15-25)

#16(10) – Oklahoma St Cowboys 1-1
#17(17) – Utah Utes 2-0
#18(19) – Nebraska Cornhuskers 2-0
#19(18) – North Carolina Tar Heels 2-0
#20(20) – Kansas Jayhawks 2-0
#21(21) – Georgia Bulldogs 1-1
#22(22) – Cincinnati Bearcats 2-0
#23(23) – Miami-Fl Hurricanes 1-0
#24(25) – Pittsburgh Panthers 1-0
#25(NR) – Missouri Tigers 2-0
