Bob Stoops is Overrated, Settle Down Notre Dame, ACC Sucks, and More…

Well, there are still four games left to play in Week 1 College Football for the 2009 season, but let’s breakdown what transpired yesterday in a wild College Football saturday.

Bob Stoops and the Sooners… Is that ALL you got?
The big news last night was defending Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford getting injured and taken out of the game in last night’s 14-13 #20 BYU win over #3 Oklahoma. Bradford will be out 2-4 weeks(that’s why you go PRO when you are a GUARANTEED Top 5 pick son!) and that really hurts OU’s chances of recovering from this defeat and getting itself back in the national title picture. However, even with a healthy Bradford in the 1st half last night the Sooners offense only mustered up 10 1st half points against a BYU team that is not exactly known for having an “elite” defense. The Sooners offense looks to be a far cry from last season’s record-setting unit and have a lot of work to do if it doesn’t want to get embrassed by Texas next month. And, on another note, can we STOP mentioning Bob Stoops as one of the top 5 head coaches in the nation? He is NOT folks. The coach formerly known as “BIG GAME Bob” is 0-5 in his last five BCS bowl games and has been laying quite a few eggs as BIG CHALK in recent years, including last night’s loss as a -23 favorite.

Settle Notre Dame Towel Wavers… It was only Nevada!!
Excuse me if I yawned when hearing Notre Dame pasted Nevada 35-0. From listening to some of the national pundits you might think the Irish rolled over someone GOOD. Folks, it was Nevada. It wasn’t USC. It wasn’t Ohio St. A good start? Yes. A sign of things to come? Puhleaze. Listen, the Irish will clean up on the lightweights and feast on the cream puffs this season, but will get totally overmatched and worked when it goes up against the BIG BOYS. This team is still short on athletes and speed and overflowed with slow and weak farm boys that can’t last 60 minutes with the nation’s most athletic and strongest teams. I said before the season this team was a 7-8 win team and I still stand by it.

The Beat goes on in LA… USC and Pete Carrol have another LOADED Team Folks
I got to watch most of the USC game yesterday against San Jose St. Ok, let’s get the fact that San Jose St flat out sucks right out of the way. There’s no denying that. However, I know talent when I see it and USC looks like they are going to be one of the Top 3 teams(Florida and Texas being the other 2) in the nation this season. USC’s freshman QB Matt Barkley can play my friends. He has all the tools and looks poised in the pocket. I do, however, see him struggling once or twice on the road due to the fact that he is a TRUE freshman so that will probably play a role in USC losing to a team it probably shouldn’t away from home(@ Ohio St next week and @ Cal 10/3/09 come to mind). You have to give Pete Carroll his due. His players change, coordinators leave, off the field controversy always swirls(AKA Reggie Bush), but good ol’ Pete just continues to get the job done and WIN.

Other Quick Opinions and Notes on Week 1 College Football

Rodriguez gets it done… Michigan wins 31-7 – Can the gutless former and current players that bashed Rich Rodriguez in the press last week now SHUT UP? I mean, c’mon, you are being asked to lift a little more weights and practice a little longer. Too friggen bad! You sucked last season and need the extra work.

Nebraska rolls 49-3 over Fla Atlantic – Keep an eye on the Huskers this season. Head coach Bo Pelini is getting it done down in Lincoln and the Huskers are my darkhorse pick to come out of nowhere and finish in the Top 10. A BCS bowl berth is NOT out of the question folks. Laugh now, but remember who told you first.

The ACC flat out SUCKS… Tired of this OVERRATED League – There I said it. The ACC sucks. Normally I take out of my anger towards this league when it annually is the most OVERRATED college basketball league in the country(don’t spit out your cheerios Dicky V and sit down), but today I’ll take a shot at it’s AWFUL football league. I mean, c’mon, is it just me or does this league suck? They went 4-6 overall the last 3 days and only one of those wins was against a FBS team. All the other 3 wins were against cream puffs(Middle Tenn St, Northeastern, Jack St). In it’s high profile games, Maryland got it’s ass handed to them last night out west 52-13 against California, NC State laid an egg at home 7-3 to South Carolina, Wake Forest couldn’t get it done at home in a 24-21 loss to Baylor, and Va Tech ran out of gas in a 34-24 loss to Alabama. Not only are the fans and apologists for this shitty league annoying to listen to, but it’s awful teams are just as annoying to watch. I hate this league with a passion.
