College Football Predictions: Texas Longhorns 2010 Predictions, Schedule, Odds and Picks

Texas Longhorns 2010 NCAA Football Preview, Schedule, Odds, and Predictions: Head football coach Mack Brown, needing to replace Colt McCoy who moved on to the NFL after being the winningest quarterback in college football, could win a BCS National Championship with sophomore Garrett Gilbert at quarterback for Texas. “I think so because Garrett has been around,” Brown said. “I guess I would answer it that no one thought Butler would be in the (NCAA Tournament) final at the first of the season. So there are surprises.” The Longhorns aren’t going to sneak up on anybody; they are still loaded and have plenty of help to surround the young QB and may even be better overall than last season. Vegas odds makers have the Texas Longhorns +1200 odds to win the 2011 BCS National Championship.

Offensively the line and running backs had a mediocre year for the Horns and should be improved in 2010 which will help Gilbert not have to shoulder as big of burden. Playing in the BCS National Championship game after McCoy’s injury will be valuable experience as well. Brown likes to use a two back system which will primarily feature Tre’ Newton(former Dallas Cowboys lineman Nate Newton’s oldest son) and Fozzy Whittaker, an effective scat back. Newton led the team in rushing with 552 yards last season. Coaches believe Malcolm Williams, a big physical receiver at 6’3″ and 225 pounds, will take over departed Jordan Shipley’s role as the go to guy making the big plays. The odds makers at BetUS have the Texas Longhorns + 200 to win the Big Twelve Conference.

Defensively, the strength figures to be the secondary, where Texas is loaded, cornerback’s seniors Curtis Brown and Chykie Brown as well as junior Aaron Williams all could be in the NFL next season. The line has depth returning as well as several blue chip recruits that will step in immediately. Juniors Keenan Robinson and Emmanuel Acho and senior Dustin Earnest are sideline-to-sideline players who are consistently around the ball and Earnest has the confidence of defensive coordinator Will Muschamp to hold down the middle. If that is not enough, three ultra-talented freshmen — Aaron Benson, Tevin Jackson and five-star recruit Jordan Hicks from West Chester, Ohio will also push for playing time. The odds makers at BetUS have the Texas Longhorns middle number listed at over/under 10 wins for the 2010 NCAAF regular season.

NFL Head Coaches are Executive Managers while College Head Coaches are recruiters and Texas Longhorns Mack Brown is one of the best. I predict the Texas Longhorns going 12-1 and winning the Big 12 South for my 2010 College Football Predictions and to play in the Big 12 Championship with a shot at going to the BCS National Championship game for a second year in a row. I have them at preseason number 3 in my poll! Hook em’ Horns!
