Saturday Night College Football Kansas State @ Texas Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Week 11 NCAA Football Spreads and Odds

Week 11 Free College Football Picks and Spreads: Kansas St @ Texas 2011 NCAA Football Vegas Odds, Free Picks, and Expert Predictions on FX Saturday 11/19/11: When Kansas State and Texas meet, the Longhorns are usually the team with a lot at stake. That isn’t the case this season when the 13th-ranked Wildcats (8-2) travel to Austin to face the 23rd-ranked Longhorns (6-3) Saturday night. Kansas State has an outside chance at earning an at-large bid to a BCS bowl, but winning out is a must. Meanwhile, Texas is looking to continue a rebuilding and is more than capable of playing the role of spoiler. The Wildcats are 5 ½-point favorites in this one.

Offensively, the two teams mirror each other in some respects. Both teams look to run the ball early and often, and both average more than 200 yards per game on the ground. The Longhorns hold a slight edge in terms of yardage, but the Wildcats rank in the top 25 in the country as well when it comes to running the ball. On the same note, neither team is able to pass the ball with much efficiency. Again, Texas has a slight edge, but at 93rd in the country in passing, neither side has room to brag.

While both teams own potent run-heavy offenses, the Longhorns have a decided edge on the defensive side of the ball. While the Wildcats give up nearly 30 points per game to opponents, the Longhorns are 27th in the country in scoring, giving up just 21.0 points per game. More importantly, Texas boasts the top rushing defense in the Big 12, which could spell trouble for a Kansas State offense that is completely reliant on the run. If the Longhorns can force the Wildcats into third and long situations, they have a serious edge.

The X-factor in the game is likely going to be Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein. He has been the star player for the Wildcats all season, carrying the load for the team’s rushing attack. Klein has thrown for more than 1500 yards and 10 touchdowns and has run for more than 1,000 yards. With his massive frame, he has been an absolute terror for defenses in the red zone. Klein has amassed an incredible 24 rushing touchdowns this year. He has been at his best in big games, powering the Wildcats to a four overtime victory against Texas A&M and coming with one play of taking undefeated Oklahoma State to overtime.

In the end, the game will likely be come down to Klein’s playmaking ability versus the Texas run defense. Aside from the Oklahoma game, Klein has been able to generate offense against every opponent this season. The Longhorns aren’t going to put the Wildcats in hole the way the Sooners did, which will allow Klein to play to his strength for the entire game. It will be physical battle in the trenches, but Klein should be the difference. Meanwhile, Texas just doesn’t have the offense to take advantage of a soft Kansas State defense.
