Connecticut Huskies at Rutgers Scarlet Knights 2010 NCAAF Week 6 Odds, Preview, Predictions

Connecticut Huskies at Rutgers Scarlet Knights 2010 NCAAF Week 6 Odds, Preview, and Predictions:  Head football coach Randy Edsall and his Connecticut Huskies open Big East Conference play on Friday night as they travel to Piscataway, NJ to revenge last year’s final minute defeat to the Rutgers Scarlett Knights at 7:30 PM ET on ESPN.   The Huskies will look for a heavy dose of running from tail back Jordan Todman against a Rutgers team that excels at special teams and stopping the run.  A classic power against power Big East match up, and head football coach Greg Schiano’s quarterback Tom Savage has a hand injury and if he can’t start will have to go with true freshman Chas Dodd.  This would be a tough game to begin your college career as they face a budding rival Connecticut team to open Big East play at home.  Vegas odds makers have the Connecticut Huskies a -6 point favorite on the road against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

The Huskies are coming off a win 40-21 at home against Vanderbilt covering the 8 point spread to move to 2-2 ATS this season.  Running back Jordan Todman ran the ball 37 times for 190 yards and 2 touchdowns as well as 1 reception for 12 yards giving him over 100 yards rushing in 8 of his last 9 games.  Quarterback Cody Endres completed 21 of 30 passes for 179 yards 2 touchdowns and an interception.  The defense held quarterback Larry Smith to 157 yards passing with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions and only 64 yards rushing.  Connecticut is 1-4 SU in its last 5 games when playing Rutgers and the total has gone OVER in 4 of Connecticut’s last 6 games when playing Rutgers.  Odds makers at Diamond have the over/under for the total score at 43 points combined of the Connecticut Huskies and Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

The Scarlet Knights are 2-2 and have lost 2 straight including most recently a tough 17-14 loss at home to Tulane.  Quarterback Tom Savage left in the 2nd quarter after going 2 for 5 for 29 yards and adding a hand injury to his already bruised ribs.  Replacing Savage freshman Chas Dodd completed 13 for 29 for 179 yards a touchdown and a pick.  “Can’t talk about that. That would be tipping the hand. Obviously, you saw on the injury report that [Steve] Shimko had season-ending surgery. There are some plans. But we need to keep them private.” — Rutgers coach Greg Schiano to the Newark Star-Ledger, refusing to go into detail about his plans at quarterback if he loses both Tom Savage and Chas Dodd to injuries. Vegas odds makers have the Rutgers Scarlet Knights +9000 odds to win the 2011 BCS National Championship.
