College Football Predictions: Boise State Broncos 2010 NCAAF Preview, Schedule, Odds and Picks

Boise State Broncos 2010 NCAAF Preview, Schedule, Odds, and Predictions: Led by it’s outstanding head football coach Chris Petersen, the Broncos finished the season 14-0, won its seventh WAC Conference Championship and won it’s Fiesta Bowl matchup for the 2nd time in four seasons last year. Petersen won the Paul “Bear” Bryant National Coach of the Year award and Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, which was his second WAC league coaching honor in his four seasons at Boise State. Oh, and it returns 22 of its 24 Fiesta Bowl starters. We should find out early if they deserve my preseason number 5 ranking with an opening game at the Virginia Tech Hokies and then 3 weeks later a home opener against the Oregon State Beavers. If they make it unscathed through September they have a realistic shot at the BCS National Championship game. Boise State Broncos +750 odds to win the 2011 BCS National Championship.

Offensively the Broncos are stacked led by Heisman Trophy candidate junior quarterback Kellen Moore, who threw 39 touchdown passes with only three picks. At his disposal are All-WAC wide receivers Austin Pettis who snagged 14 touchdowns and Titus Young with 15 total touchdowns. Also returning are tight ends Tommy Gallarda andFiesta Bowl Offensive MVP Kyle Efaw. A stable of running backs include 1,100 yard rusher Jeremy Avery , Doug Martin who scored 15 touchdowns on the ground and D.J. Harper who was having a great year before an ACL injury. Need I say more? The odds makers at SBG Global have the Boise State Broncos -400 to win the Western Athletic Conference.

Defensively the Broncos look to improve their consistency under new defensive coordinator, line coach Pete Kwiatkowski. Nine starters return as well as some athletic and talented freshman. The group put up some impressive numbers with 26 quarterback sacks and produced 35 turnovers. The odds makers at SBG Global have the Boise State Broncos middle number listed at over/under 11 wins for the 2010 NCAAF regular season.

Boise State has the depth, talent and experience to be the best Bronco team ever, but is it enough to be a National Champion? They have schedule and national exposure late in the year as they’ll get appear on ESPN2 three times in November, which will keep them in front of the pollsters. I predict and undefeated regular season but a loss in the BCS National Championship game as they can’t compete with the defenses in the big 4 conferences.
