College Football Power Rankings Thru 11/14/09 plus News and Notes

Well, the College Football regular season is winding down and it is pretty obvious who the contenders(Bama, Texas, Florida and TCU!) and pretenders(Hello Pete Carroll and Fat Charlie!) are. Anyway, let’s take a quick look around the nation:

TCU is for REAL! Folks, Garry Patterson’s Horned Frogs are LEGIT! No doubt about it. They can and WOULD beat just about every team in the nation outside of possibly Texas, Florida and Alabama. And, you know what? I’m convinced they could give those three teams a hard fought 60 minute game too. TCU more than deserves to be in the BCS National Championship Game discussion.

What happened to USC? 55-21. WOW! How the hell does a team with USC’s talent get pasted by 34 points at home to a good but hardly GREAT Stanford team? That is embarassing. Pete Carroll you have to coach better than that my friend.

The SEC is OVERRATED this Season. The SEC is still the BEST league in the nation but it is not heads and shoulders above the other conferences like in recent years. Sure, Florida and Bama are legit Top 3 teams but what else? LSU? Good, not great. Ole Miss? Same as LSU. Good, not great. The SEC only has three legit Top 15 teams and a bunch of mediocrity this season. A down year for the league as a whole, I’m sorry SEC fans.

Brian Kelly is making the WRONG Decision going with the Soph over Pike. I can’t wait for Pittsburgh to give Brian Kelly and the Bearcats a reality check this month. #1, Pitt is better. Book it. #2, Brian Kelly is an ass for sticking with soph QB Zach Collaros over senior leader Tony Pike, who is back from injury and cleared to play. Hey Brian, you wouldn’t even be in the discussion for the Notre Dame job or other top flight jobs if Tony Pike didn’t make you look good the past few seasons. Now you bench your senior in favor of a hot shot soph? Nice loyalty you jerk.

My Top 10 College Football Power Rankings
1. Texas – Mack Brown and the Horns are rolling.
2. Alabama – Still got my doubts about the QB against Fla or Texas but Saban and the defense are great.
3. Florida – They just don’t appear to be as dominant as in year’s past.
4. TCU – If they wind up going unbeaten then they MUST play in the BCS championship game if 2 of the “Big 3” end up with a loss.
5. Ohio St – I know they got 2 losses but they would still be favored over any team lower on this list.
6. Pittsburgh – They WILL beat Cincinnati. Remember who said it first.
7. Georgia Tech – The Jackets are rolling and should win the ACC and play in a BCS bowl.
8. Cincinnati – Hey, sorry, but I’m not impressed. A weak Uconn team gave them all they wanted and then a mediocre WVU team played them tough at home. That’s not a dominant team my friends.
9. Boise St – They roll every week against cream puffs. Big deal.
10. LSU – They haven’t beaten a good team all season but it just goes to show you how bad College Football is this year when I can’t find another team to rank above them.
