Boise State Broncos vs. Virginia Tech Hokies 2010 NCAAF Week 1 Odds, Preview, Predictions

Boise State Broncos vs. Virginia Tech Hokies 2010 NCAAF Week 1 Odds, Preview, and Predictions:  For Head football coach Chris Petersen and his number 5 ranked Boise State Broncos this might well be the BCS National Championship game as they head to FedEx Field in Landover MD to take on the number 13 ranked Virginia Tech Hokies.  A win for the Broncos legitimizes their ranking and with a favorable schedule could lead to another undefeated season and an at large bid to play in the BCS National Championship game.  Last season the Broncos were undefeated and beat TCU 17-10 in the Fiesta Bowl but did not have the opportunity to play for the Championship.  This won’t be as cakewalk as head football coach Frank Beamer always fields a competitive team and a stout defense.  The Hokies are also coming off a win in the Chik-fil-A Bowl 37-14 over Tennessee.  Vegas odds makers have the Boise State Broncos a -1 point favorite against the Virginia Tech Hokies.

The Broncos are led by Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback Kellen Moore who boasts a 26-1 record as a starter.  Moore threw for 3,536 yards, 39 touchdowns with just 3 picks, the best TD to Int ratio in NCAA history. In total 21 of 22 starters return including leading rusher Jeremy Avery who ran for 1,151 yards and scored 6 touchdowns.  The Broncos 17.1 points allowed defensively led the WAC last year.  Vegas odds makers have Kellen Moore at 10/1 odds to win the Heisman Trophy.

The Hokies return quarterback Tyrod Taylor, a duel threat in the mold of Mickael Vick, who threw for 2,311 yards with 13 touchdowns and just 5 picks.  Taylor also rushed for 370 yards and 5 touchdowns.  Vtech also has two strong running backs to hand the ball to Ryan Williams and Darren Evans.  Evans is returning from an ACL injury and Williams is coming off a 1,655 yard rushing season where he broke Evans 2008 ACC freshman rushing record. “Having these two backs behind me, that’s going to take a lot of pressure off my legs and open up lanes for the passing area,” Taylor said. “They’re going to stack the box knowing that we have a great rushing game and that’s going to open things for me and my receivers.”  The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Virginia Tech’s last 7 games.  Odds makers at BetUS have the over/under for the total score at 52 points combined of the Boise State Broncos and the Virginia Tech Hokies.

This should be a great battle of two of the top programs in the country.  I predict a narrow victory for the Boise State Broncos keeping their National Championship hopes alive.
