Free College Football Picks: Boise St @ Georgia 2011 NCAA Football Vegas Odds, Free Picks, and Expert Predictions 9/3/11: A pair of top 25 teams will face off Saturday night when Boise State and Georgia do battle in the season opener for both teams. For the fifth-ranked Broncos, the game represents a chance to prove they can compete with the major conferences and deserve a shot at the national title depending on how the rest of the year unfolds. For No. 19 Georgia, an upset win would be a step in the right direction to erasing memories of last season’s 6-7 debacle. It would also move the Bulldogs up the standings and closer to the elite status the program has enjoyed in recent years.

The two players under center will be at the center of just about everything both teams do offensively. Boise State senior QB Kellen Moore is one of the most decorated players at the position in college football history. He needs just eight wins to become the all-time winningest QB, and he has a good chance of breaking the career marks for completion percentage and touchdowns. Meanwhile, Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray will try to build on his impressive freshman season. Murray threw for more than 3,000 yards and finished with 24 touchdowns and just eight interceptions.

Both Murray and Moore will be breaking in some new targets at receiver this year. Murray lost stud A.J. Green – the fourth overall pick in the NFL draft. Although he didn’t lose a player of Green’s caliber, Moore will be replacing Titus Young and Austin Pettis. Both receivers were picked in the first three rounds of the NFL draft. Overall, Murray has more weapons coming back, but Moore has the clear edge in experience and can make just about any receiver successful thanks to his accuracy.

Moore also has the benefit of a more balanced offense thanks to running back Doug Martin, who ran for more than 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs will turn to Isaiah Crowell, a true freshman that has plenty of hype but little experience, especially in a game of this magnitude. While the experience and star power clearly lies with the Broncos, Georgia does enjoy a size advantage along both the offensive and defensive lines. Anyone that has been watching the SEC the last few years knows the caliber of athlete that comes to the conference. That’s not to say Boise State hasn’t stockpiled some serious talent as well, but the Broncos will be giving up 30 to 40 pounds in the trenches.

When these two programs met in 2005, Georgia’s size advantage was on full display. The Bulldogs front seven terrorized the Boise State offensive line, powering Georgia to a 48-13 blowout victory. Given how far the Broncos have come as a program since then, bettors can expect a much difference result this time around. However, it is worth noting that Boise State shouldn’t be considered a lock just because they are the higher ranked team. Throw in the fact the game is being played in Athens, and the Broncos essentially find themselves going on the road despite it being billed as a neutral site.

This matchup is going to be classic example of youth versus experience, size versus savvy. Moore and Martin are proven winners, and in the last two seasons they have powered Boise State to victories against both Oregon and Virginia Tech. If the Broncos can knock off a team that played for the national title last year and a perennial contender for the ACC title, they probably aren’t going to be intimidated by a Georgia program that has been finishing in the middle of the SEC race. The Broncos have proven they can beat any team in the country in recent years, and the Bulldogs are about to find out why.
