Baylor Bears @ Texas A&M Aggies Odds and Predictions: FX Saturday College Football Picks

Week 7 Free College Football Picks and Spreads: Baylor Bears @ Texas A&M Aggies 2011 NCAA Football Vegas Odds, Free Picks, and Expert Predictions on FX Saturday 10/15/11: The Big 12 is loaded with ranked teams this season, and two of them will fight to stay in the top 25 when the 20th-ranked Baylor Bears (4-1) visit the 21st-ranked Texas A&M Aggies (3-2) Saturday afternoon. The programs are loaded with talent on the offensive side of the ball, and high-scoring games seem to run with the territory for both teams. Despite looking up at some traditional conference powerhouses, the Aggies and Bears still have a chance to play spoiler if not win the Big 12 themselves. That being said, the loser of this weekend’s matchup can likely kiss any Big 12 title hopes goodbye, and Baylor is a 9 ½-point underdog playing on the road.

When breaking down the matchup, Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III is a good place to start. He has been putting up Heisman-worthy numbers all season, and he currently leads the country with 19 touchdown passes. Perhaps more impressively, he has thrown just one interception and has completed more than 80 percent of his passes thus far. Griffin III also has the ability to make plays with his legs when needed, which makes him even more dangerous as a passer. In short, he is a versatile weapon, and at times, he can be a one-man wrecking crew on an opposing defense.

Thanks largely to Griffin III, the Bears boast the fourth-best scoring offense in the country entering Saturday’s matchup, scoring more than 47 points per game. The Aggies aren’t too shabby in their own right, putting up just under 40 per game. Needless to say, both teams have plenty of talent at the skill positions. Griffin III is joined by receiver Kendall Wright a running back Terrance Ganaway. Wright currently leads the nation with eight touchdown catches, and Ganaway is averaging 6.0 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Texas A&M has a three-headed monster of their with quarterback Ryan Tannehill, running back Cyrus Gray and receiver Jeff Fuller. Tannehill has transformed the Aggies’ offense into a scoring machine since taking over the starting role in the middle of last season, and Gray has become a near lock to top 100 yards whenever he suits up.

With all the offensive firepower on each side, the game could quickly become a back-and forth affair. Not to mention the fact that neither defense has been able to do much this year. The Aggies have given up 30 or more points three times in five games, and the same can be said for the Bears. Surprisingly, both teams have actually won a game this season despite surrendering 40 or more points on defense. It is very possible that Saturday’s meeting could come down to the last offense that has the ball.

One of the big question marks will be the psyche of the Aggies. After all, Texas A&M has was ranked in the top 10 in the country three weeks ago. However, the Aggies blew big leads against conference rival Oklahoma State and SEC opponent Arkansas. The team rebounded with a win against Texas Tech last weekend, but after seeing two potential wins against ranked opponents slip away, there is a good chance the nightmares are still hanging around in the backs of the minds of the A&M players.

In the end, the Aggies offense is probably a little more balanced, and their rushing attack can be dominant at times. However, Griffin III and the Bears’ offense are a big play waiting to happen, and without a strong defense to fall back on, Texas A&M could have trouble keeping Baylor from lighting up the scoreboard. Not to mention the fact that the Aggies’ track record in big games this year isn’t exactly encouraging. Even though Baylor has struggled on the road against A&M in the past, the Bears have more than enough weapons to hang with the Aggies and maybe even beat them outright.
