The 19th ranked Texas Longhorns come into the Red River Showdown this week feeling confident after winning their 4th straight game last Saturday at Kansas State by a 19-14 score. The Longhorns have now won 4 in a row after a disappointing 34-29 loss at Maryland in their season opener.

The Longhorns are on their first 4 game winning streak since the 2013 season and appear to be improving nicely in head coach Tom Herman’s 2nd season. The Longhorns are relying on a stout defense that is allowing just 333.2 yards per game and 4.9 yards per play. They have now held USC, TCU and Kansas State to a combined 44 points over the last 3 weeks.

The Texas offense is still a work in progress this season and comes in putting up just 397.4 yards per game and 5.3 yards per play. The Longhorns running game has been subpar as it only averages 3.8 yards per attempt and 154 yards per game on 40.6 rushed per game. Sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger has been solid as he’s thrown for 1185 yards and 9 touchdowns against just 2 interceptions this season.

The 7th ranked Oklahoma Sooners enter this week’s rivalry game with an unblemished 5-0 record. The Sooners are coming off of a 66-33 win at home versus Baylor last Saturday. They covered the -21.5 point spread against Baylor after failing to cover the spread in their prior three games.

The Sooners are known for their high powered offense and this year is no different. The Sooners offense comes in posting 523.2 yards per game and a whopping 8.9 yards per play. The Sooners have a well balanced offensive attack that averages 206.2 yards per game rushing on 6.2 yards per carry while throwing for 317 yards per game and averaging 12.7 yards per attempt. Junior quarterback Kyler Murray has been superb so far as he’s thrown for 1460 yards and 17 touchdowns against just 2 interceptions.

The Sooners defense has been pretty solid so far this season although they did give up the most points they allowed in a game all season last week against Baylor. The defense is surrendering 405.2 yards per game and 5 yards per play this season although they haven’t exactly played the greatest competition so far in Florida Atlantic, UCLA, Iowa State, Army and Baylor.

Oklahoma has won the last two meetings with a tight 29-24 win last season and a close 45-40 win in 2016. The Sooners have owned this rivalry of late as they have now won 6 out of the last 8 meetings. However, we look for a surging Texas team to give them all they can handle again this week with a real shot at pulling out the outright win. Take the points as this one should be another close game.

#19 Texas @ #7 Oklahoma Free Pick and Score Prediction: Texas to cover as a +7.5 point underdog.
