The 18th ranked Wisconsin Badgers have not looked like the top 10 team and Big Ten West favorites they were supposed to be coming into the 2018 season. The Badgers enter this week’s key Big Ten road matchup with a 2-1 overall record after losing 24-21 at home last week in a shocking upset to BYU. The Badgers were -23.5 point favorite against BYU and the loss dropped them to a money burning 0-3 against the spread so far.

Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst needs to get his team motivated quickly as they face a very good Iowa team this week. The Badgers have not looked good all season so far as their first two wins were lackluster for a team that many felt would be dominant this season coming off of a 13-1 season last year. The offense returned 10 starters from last season’s 28th ranked scoring offense in the nation but they haven’t looked the part so far at all in 2018.

The Wisconsin offense enters this matchup averaging 484.3 yards per game overall but mustered just 394 against BYU last week. Defensively, the Badgers are giving up 275.7 yards per game and 4.9 yards per play. BYU gained just 311 yards in the win over Wisconsin last week but did not turn the ball over and rushed for 191 yards on just 28 carries.

The Iowa Hawkeyes come into this Saturday night home showdown with a 3-0 overall record including 3-0 against the spread. The Hawkeyes beat Northern Iowa 38-14 last week at home to cover the -22 point spread.

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz has a talented team this season with 11 starters back from last year’s solid 8-5 team that finished strong with a 27-20 win over Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl. The Hawkeyes have a golden opportunity to beat a Wisconsin team early in the season that is struggling and give themselves the all important head-to-head tie breaker in the Big Ten West Division.

Iowa have not been much better offensively so far this season then last year’s terrible 117th ranked total offense in the nation. The Hawkeyes are averaging 389.3 yards per game and a paltry 5.4 yards per play this year despite starting 3-0 overall. However, the Hawkeyes bread and butter is their defensive unit and they have been great so far. The defense is allowing just 209 yards per game and 3.5 yards per play.

We look for this game to be tight for awhile but for Wisconsin to pull away in the 2nd half. The Iowa offense is simply too pedestrian to be counted on in our eyes and that’s where Wisconsin has the huge edge in this game. Look for Wisconsin to bounce back nicely from last week’s upset loss.

#18 Wisconsin @ Iowa Free Pick and Score Prediction: Wisconsin to cover as a -3 point favorite.
