Odds to Win the 2018 Mountain West Football Championship – Mountain West Football Predictions & Expert Picks

2018 Mountain West “Mountain Division” Prediction

1. Boise State Broncos – The Broncos are coming off of another stellar season last year that saw them finish 11-3 overall including 7-1 in the Mountain West and won the Mountain West Championship Game 17-14 over Fresno State. Boise State capped their season off with a 38-28 win over Oregon in the Las Vegas Bowl. Head coach Bryan Harsin is 42-14 overall in his four seasons at Boise and he welcomes back 15 starters from last year’s squad as the Broncos are once again the favorite to win the Mountain West. Senior quarterback Brett Rypien is back to lead the offense and he is as solid as it gets. Rypien finished with 2877 yards passing and 16 touchdowns last season and protected the ball nicely down the stretch as he only threw one interception in the final 8 regular season games. Boise State finished 36th nationally in scoring at 32.5 ppg last season and figures to be around that this season as well. Defensively, the Broncos have 9 starters back from a unit that finished 38th in scoring allowed at 22.9 ppg. Look for Boise’s defense to be better this season and move up the national rankings in points allowed. 2018 Projection 11-2, 7-1 Mountain West

2018 Mountain West “West Division” Prediction

1. Fresno State Bulldogs – Fresno State head coach Jeff Tedford did a superb job in his first season a Fresno last year as he led the Bulldogs to a 10-4 overall record including 7-1 in the Mountain West. The Bulldogs capped off their season in style with a 33-27 win over Houston in the Hawaii Bowl to lift up everyone’s spirits heading into the offseason. Tedford welcomes back 14 starters from last year’s squad including 7 each on both sides of the ball. Senior quarterback Marcus McMaryion is back to lead an offense that was subpar last season finishing just 77th nationally in scoring at 27.1 ppg. McMaryion is a solid player but Tedford will need a lot more then the 2726 yards passing and 14 touchdowns he tossed last season if Fresno is going to win the Mountain West this season. Defensively, the Bulldogs were dominant last season finishing 10th in the country in points allowed at just 17.9 ppg. Expect the defense to be just as good this season with 7 starters returning including all of the starting linebackers and the entire secondary.

2018 Projection 9-4, 7-1 Mountain West
