2017 Week 5 College Football Picks – #2 Clemson @ #12 Virginia Tech Odds & Free Pick 9/30/17

The Clemson Tigers enter this primetime ACC showdown with an overall record of 4-0 and 3-1 against the spread. The Tigers are coming in off of 34-7 home win over Boston College last Saturday as a -32 point favorite.

The defending National Champion Tigers have looked like a worthy threat to win the whole thing again this season thru it’s first four weeks. The Clemson offense has been very good so far as it retools itself without former quarterback Deshaun Watson leading the huddle. The offense totaled 482 yards last week against BC including a dominant 342 yards on the ground. The Tigers offense has now totaled 297 yards or more in three of it’s first four games on the ground giving it one of the top rushing attacks in the nation.

The Tigers defense has also been stout so far this season. The unit allowed just 238 total yards last week against BC and has given up just 908 total yards this season thru four games. Only Louisville has scored in double digits against Clemson this season as they only scored 21 points despite having an explosive offense led by last season’s Heisman Trophy winner, quarterback Lamar Jackson.

The Virginia Tech Hokies come into this ACC showdown with an overall record of 4-0 and 3-1 against the spread. The Hokies won 38-0 last week at home against Old Dominion as a -29 point favorite.

The Hokies, much like Clemson, are a well balanced team with strong units on both side of the ball. The offense totaled 582 yards against Old Dominion last week and 675 yards the week prior against East Carolina. The Hokies can gain yards running and passing and had 271 yards on the ground and 311 in the air last week.

The Hokies defense is also one of the top units in the ACC and nation so far this season. The Hokies have given up just 653 total yards the last three weeks after starting off slow in it’s opener by giving up 592 yards to West Virginia it their 31-24 win over the Mountaineers.

Who are we betting on to cover the spread in the Clemson @ Virginia Tech game? We are putting in a bet on Virginia Tech to cover the spread as a +7.5 point underdog. Virginia Tech lost 42-35 at home last season to Clemson but showed it has what it takes to hang with the Tigers. This year’s Hokies team is better than last year and we feel they have a legit shot at winning outright. Bet on Virginia Tech to cover as +7.5 point favorites at America’s Bookie.
