2017 College Football Betting Online – Troy @ Boise St Odds & Prediction 9/2/17

Boise State Broncos head coach Bryan Harsin has gone 31-9 in his first three seasons on the job and is one of the better young coaches in the sport. However, Harsin will really have to earn his money this season as only 8 starters return from last year’s 10-3 team that lost it’s final two games against Air Force 27-20 and against Baylor in the Cactus Bowl 31-12.

The good news for Harsin and Boise St fans is junior quarterback Brett Rypien returns this season. Rypien threw for 3646 yards and 24 touchdowns last season and he’s an excellent signal caller for offensive coordinator Zak Hill. Rypien helped lead the Boise offense to a 33.8 ppg average last season that was 38th in the nation. The offense moved the ball consistently last season and finished 21st in the country with 472.8 total yards per game. The offense will have to replace all the top skill position players this season with none of them returning but Boise still has a lot of talent on the roster and should be very good offensively.

On the flip side of the ball Boise State also has to replace many key pieces. Only four starters return from a defensive unit that gave up just 23.3 ppg to finish 29th in the nation and 389.8 yards per game to end up 52nd nationally. Defensive coordinator Andy Avalos is a very good coach and he will need to get the defense to force more turnovers this season after they forced just 9 last season(2 fumble recoveries and 7 interceptions).

Troy Trojans head coach Neal Brown has to feel confident heading into this season as 15 starters are returning from last year’s 10-3 team that ended the season in style with a 28-23 win over Ohio in the Dollar General Bowl. Neal is 14-11 after two seasons on the job and has done a great job rebuilding the program and has recruited very well.

The offense should be superb again this year with 9 starters back from a unit that scored 33.7 ppg to finish 39th in the nation last year. Senior quarterback Brandon Silvers returns after tossing for 3180 yards and 23 touchdowns last season. Silvers has all his top weapons back this season as the top three wide receivers, top tight end and top running back on the depth chart are all back. Troy’s offense should be explosive and improved over last year’s very good unit.

Defensively, the Troy defense was even better than the offense last year as they gave up just 22.1 ppg to finish 21st in the country. The defense returns 6 starters this year for defensive coordinator Vic Koenning and they should be a very good unit again. The secondary is the strength of the unit with three starters back. Troy led the Sun Belt last season in takeaways and if they can come close to matching that this season the defense has a chance to equal last season’s dominant unit.
